The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is seeking a highly motivated and qualified candidate for an exciting full-time permanent position with its Office of Energy Projects. The position is located in the Washington Office, and the incumbent will serve as a Staff Geologist in the Commission’s Natural Gas program in the Division of Pipeline Certificates. The Division of Pipeline Certificates is responsible for geologic, engineering, and policy review of proposals by natural gas companies, nation-wide. This important position reports directly to the Senior Geologist and Branch Chief in the Division of Pipeline Certificates and will review and analyze applications for natural gas storage in varied underground formations, as well as undertake policy review of proposed actions. The ideal candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, have a strong background and experience in geology and have journeyman level of experience and knowledge in the, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of underground storage of natural gas in aquifers, depleted production fields, and salt domes. The candidate will also have the ability to work independently and use leadership skills to maximize personal potential and enhance their productivity in meeting the mission, goals, and objectives of the Commission’s Natural Gas program.The mission of the Office of Energy Projects is to facilitate potential benefits to the nation through the review of natural gas and hydropower infrastructure proposals and minimize risks to the public associated with FERC jurisdictional energy infrastructure. Performs support duties such as abstracting cost and economic data from post certificate filings and annual reports, makes mathematical computations and develops chart and graphs, as needed.
Assists senior staff in performing modeling of underground storage of natural gas as well as portions of, or entire, pipeline transportation systems.
