Johns Hopkins University Director of Executive MBA Programs in Washington, District Of Columbia

Johns Hopkins Carey Business School is seeking an experience and savvy higher education professional for the role of Director of the Executive MBA Program s (EMBA). This position is a highly visible and impactful role within Carey Business School. The Director is responsible for the overall success and strategic direction of the EMBA program, ensuring an exceptional student experience and fostering strong relationships with faculty, students, alumni, and industry partners. The Director will collaborate closely with the Faculty Academic Program Director (APD) on curriculum development, program evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position will also coordinate activities with Admissions, Experiential Learning, Marketing, and Career & Life Design.

The Director will manage the program budget effectively, ensuring resources are allocated strategically to support program goals. They will pro-actively stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies relevant to executive education. The Director will supervise EMBA Programs staff, including an Assistant Director of EMBA Advising and an Assistant Director of EMBA Student Experience (TBD).

This is a hybrid position is based at Carey Business School’s Washington DC location, with regular travel to the Baltimore Harbor East location, some occasional international travel might be needed.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Program Management

  • Lead the strategic planning and execution for the Executive MBA program, collaborating closely with the EMBA Academic Program Director (APD) and other key stakeholders.

  • Oversee the annual review process, utilizing assessment tools to track progress, identify areas for improvement, and benchmark against competitor programs.

  • Collaborate with the APD to evaluate and enhance the curriculum, ensuring its relevance, innovation, and alignment with industry trends.

  • Effectively communicate program updates, assessment findings, and benchmarking results to faculty, staff, and Carey leadership.

  • Collaborate with Admissions and Marketing & Communications to promote the EMBA program, highlighting its unique features and value proposition.

  • In coordination with the APD, provide strategic insight to school leadership on the future direction of the program.

Programming

  • Develop and implement innovative co-curricular offerings, both in-person and virtual, in collaboration with Career & Life Design, Employer Relations, and Experiential Learning.

  • Oversee the EMBA program budget, ensuring resources are allocated strategically to support program objectives.

  • Provide comprehensive support to students, collaborating effectively with various departments to address their academic and professional development needs.

  • Work closely with the APD and Academics team on strategic planning, new program development, and strategic initiatives.

  • Serve as a key ambassador for the EMBA program, actively participating in admissions events and student recruitment activities.

Student Support Leadership

  • Oversee the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of new EMBA program staff, ensuring a strong team culture and shared vision.

  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, providing constructive feedback and identifying opportunities for professional development.

  • Mentor and coach staff members, supporting their growth and empowering them to excel in their roles.

  • Delegate effectively, ensuring clear expectations, providing necessary resources, and fostering a sense of ownership.

  • Address staff concerns promptly and professionally, fostering a positive and supportive work environment.

  • Collaborate with the APD, Senior Director of Academics, and other relevant stakeholders to resolve complex advising and academic issues.

  • Develop, implement, and assess advising interventions and programming to address factors that influence student persistence and degree completion.

  • Run student status reports every semester to identify stop-out students and take appropriate action, including contacting the student and alerting the advisor.

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Serve on school-wide committees and attend major campus events (i.e., graduation, summer intensive, Career Development events, etc.) as needed.

  • Provide support to other programs as needed.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines, ensuring timely completion and efficient resource utilization.

  • Proactive in staying abreast of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies relevant to executive education.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to deliver engaging presentations and facilitate productive meetings.

  • Proficient in using technology to enhance program management, communication, and data analysis (e.g., MS Office Suite, learning management systems).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in education or specific field related to program.

  • Five year's experience in all aspects of academic program administration. Supervisory experience preferred.

  • Additional experience may substitute for education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An MBA or an Advanced Degree (Master or Ph.D.) in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field.

  • Experience working with business school students, preferably with executive MBA students.

  • Academic advising, student affairs, or academic program management experience.

  • Experience working with high profile, high-touch academic programs.

Starting Salary Range: $64,600 - $113,300 Annually ($100,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

Employee group: Full Time

Schedule: Monday-Friday with occasional evenings and weekends to support program needs
