Georgetown Univerisity Construction Safety Specialist in Washington, District Of Columbia

Requirements

The Construction Safety Specialist is responsible for OSHA safety on GU construction projects and within GU Planning and Facilities Management. The position provides expertise and technical capability in the areas of OSHA safety program implementation, hazard identification, and mitigation. The incumbent provides expertise, knowledge, and OSHA job site safety skills. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Visit and inspect GU construction projects, evaluating and assessing for safety compliance with OSHA and GU standards.

  • Work with GU contractors to identify and mitigate safety deficiencies at the site.

  • Act as a Quality Control Manager on certain projects, monitoring the contractors’ QC and implementation plans.

  • Review QC/ QA plans submitted by contractors, job site inspections of materials, methods, and testing by outside entities.

  • Manage the Personal Protective Equipment Program for Planning and Facilities Management and will work closely with contractors, project managers, and other EH&S safety professionals regarding soil erosion and runoff from the construction site.

  • Develop and manage a worksite inspection program, including safety, and perform occupational health and safety inspections of all construction projects on GU campuses, including Main Campus, Medical, Law, and Downtown.

Work Interactions

The incumbent reports directly to the Fire Marshal and Occupational Safety Manager for assignments, work direction, and administrative supervision. The incumbent provides advisory services for safety plans, advice, and assistance in resolving difficult safety construction conditions and issues and works closely with project managers to determine completed/ongoing work deficiencies. The Construction Safety Specialist works with the Fire Marshal and Occupational Safety manager to Develop and implement programs to reduce accident trends.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Safety Management, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or related field

  • Requires three to five years of progressively responsible experience in an Occupational Safety position, preferably supporting a campus environment

  • General office computer programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and experience with web-based reporting tools is preferred

  • The incumbent is required to carry a smartphone and respond to inquiries as needed (including off-hours if emergencies arise)

Preferred Requirements and Qualifications

  • OSHA construction 30-hour certification

  • CHST Construction Health and Safety Tech

  • Experience working with higher education institutions

  • Five or more years of experience

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$47,586.00 - $87,558.13

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
