ManTech Aircraft Carrier Propulsion Systems Engineer in Washington, District Of Columbia

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Aircraft Carrier Propulsion Systems Engineer to collaborate on cutting-edge projects involving the US Navy's Aircraft Carrier Design and Systems Engineering Directorate (SEA 05V) at Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). This position is onsite at the Washington Navy Yard.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will serve as a Propulsion Systems Engineer directly supporting the Ford (CVN78) new construction and in-service Class Aircraft Carrier Ship Design Managers (SDMs) and Propulsion System Engineering Manager (SEM). You will serve as a System Engineer within the SEA 05V Propulsion Group. Occasional travel may be expected in this position.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • Provide technical support and assess risk for technical decisions for Ford (CVN 78) SDMs and Propulsion SEM.

  • Provide engineering assessment, research, and problem resolution utilizing Ford (CVN 78) operational experience.

  • Provide responses to requests for technical assistance or adjudication received via letter, Departure from Specification (DFS), Liaison Action Request (LAR), Availability Work Package (AWP) Change Request

  • Participate and coordinate technical approval letters for Technical Assessment Team (TAT) reviews for Ship Change Documents (SCDs)

  • Review Technical Feedback Reports (TFBRs) for Planned Maintenance System (PMS) changes requiring Designated Technical Representative (DTR) review.

  • Coordinate with Engineering Agents, Technical Authorities, TYCOM, PMS 312, PMS 378, SUPSHIP Newport News, Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY), Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS), Ship Repair Facility (SRF), & other activities to resolve technical matters.

  • Review technical data packages, drawings, reports, logistics products, training, etc. and provide technical recommendation.

  • Develop formal presentations to brief to senior officials.

  • Review ship, procurement, and systems specifications and submit proposals for change.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering and seven (7) years’ experience or E-7 or above with extensive experience with aircraft carrier propulsion systems

  • Experience with the CVN 78 Class Propulsion Systems

  • Experience with US Navy nuclear-powered ships

  • Good technical writing and communication skills .

Desired Qualifications and Skills:

  • Degree in Nuclear Engineering from an accredited university.

  • Experience working in or at a shipyard, Naval Surface/Undersea Warfare Center (NSWC/NUWC),

  • Experience Supervising in a Shipbuilding Command (SUPSHIP), Regional Maintenance Center (RMC), and/or Type Commander (TYCOM) supporting construction, operation, maintenance, modernization, and/or repair of shipboard electrical systems.

  • Experience working with technical authority (e.g. NAVSEA 05 and 08)

  • Experience working with program managers (e.g. PEO Carriers, PMS 312, PMS 378, etc.) in an engineering role

Clearance Requirements:

  • Current and Active secret security clearance and U.S. Citizenship.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50%.

  • Needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.

  • Often positions self to maintain computers in the lab, including under the desks and in the server closet.

  • Frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve delivering presentations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

  • May be asked to move Audio/Visual or Computer equipment.
