ERPi Patient Safety SME in Washington, DC, District Of Columbia

ERPi is currently seeking a full-time Patient Safety SME to provide onsite support at our Washington, DC site.

The Role:

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is committed to providing seamless care for Veterans, including access to a complete electronic health record (EHR) and shared, transparent care pathways with the Department of Defense (DoD) and community providers. In order to ensure seamless care for Veterans, VA will move toward a single common system by adopting the electronic health record (EHR) system that is being deployed by DoD, which at its core consists of Cerner Millennium. Currently the VA is undertaking an enterprise-wide Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) effort through the procurement of the Cerner commercial electronic health record software and related support services. This modernization of VA’s health information management systems will result in a common, single, lifetime health record that both DoD and VA can access, with anticipated improvements in patient care and safety.

This role will Support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) program as a Patient Safety SME. In performing day-to-day activities, the Patient Safety SME will be responsible for the following: review all patient safety tickets during Go-Live an sustainment phases of the EHR implementation; identifies gaps between patient safety tickets and incident tickets placed in SNOW/Cerner Remedy; prepares reports identifying the capture and reporting of patient safety events/issues, including adverse events, unsafe conditions, close calls, incident evaluations, recalls, and alerts; triages and manages site level patient safety events ensuring prompt mitigation of safety concerns; Review PWS and determines Patient Safety Task Order requirements and deliverables; Create on-call roster during Go-Live and takes call as required; Aggregate and evaluate patient safety findings, conduct root cause analysis; Prepare sentinel event reports, conducts clinical focus reviews, and peer reviews in collaboration with NCPS and OHi as appropriate; Collaborates with testing team to identify patient safety issues during testing phase; prepares reports and monitors open testing items throughout the implementation; Manages and reviews the approval processes for workflows across EHRM councils/workgroups to evaluate the patient safety impact; Develops and implements best practices that maximize clinical patient safety within the EHRM Program; Host safety events and creates patient safety content for safety summits and site safety events; Advises OEHRM Patient Safety Executive on opportunities, issues and concerns which may impact safety initiatives; Creates communications strategy around patient safety objectives to internal and external stakeholders; Establishes lessons learned catalog and conducts analysis currently existing patient safety errors; Writes transition plan after Go-Live in preparation for sustainment phase.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Minimum of 4 years of experience. An additional 12 years of relevant experience may be substituted for degree requirements

• Ability to assess information and knowledge-based needs of healthcare professionals and patients

• Characterizes, evaluates, and refines clinical processes

• Develops, implements, and refines clinical decision support systems, and leads or participates in the procurement, customization, development, implementation, management, evaluation, and continuous improvement of clinical information systems, such as EHRs and order-entry systems

• Can supervise and create new approaches and solutions

• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Healthcare or related scientific, technical or clinical discipline

Desired Skills and Experience:

• Experience with VA or DoD

• Experience with Cerner EHR implementation

• Strong leadership, written communications, analysis, data gathering and organization

• Project management experience

• Proficient in PowerPoint and SharePoint
