House of Representatives Cybersecurity Intern, Fall in Washington DC, District Of Columbia

Summary The Cybersecurity Intern will gain experience in a fast paced, dynamic organization where they can learn basic security analysis skills. Responsibilities Job Summary: The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) provides operations support services and business solutions to the community of 10,000 House Members, Officers, and staff. The CAO organization comprises more than 700 technical and administrative staff working in a variety of areas, including information technology, finance, budget management, human resources, payroll, childcare, food and vending, procurement, logistics and administrative counsel. The Cybersecurity Intern will gain experience in a fast paced, dynamic organization where they can learn basic security analysis skills and potentially play an even greater role in an organization whose mission is to protect the legislative process from all actors – from malware as a service to nation state sponsored attackers. Over the course of your internship, you will be working alongside industry experts learning their daily activities and what it means to work in Cybersecurity for the House of Representatives. This would be accomplished through participating in an internal rotation shadowing Cyber staff in their various roles. Paid at an annual rate of $35,677 not to exceed 120 days * The CAO standard business hours are 8:30am-5:30pm Monday through Friday. This is a full-time 40-hour per week internship that will require onsite attendance in Washington, D.C. Primary Duties/Responsibilities: The candidate will work with the House Office of Cybersecurity staff perform their various functions. Specifically, the intern will assist the various Cyber groups execute their individual goals in support of the larger cyber mission, to protect the House. Through this internship, the candidate may be exposed to a myriad of activities to include, but not limited to: Supporting cybersecurity security operations staff as they execute monitoring and security analytics activities. Visibility into security engineering and architecture practices applied to the House technology stack. Participation in the implementation of security policy, standards, procedures, and guidelines. Exposure to cybersecurity roles, processes and activities and their application within the House environment in support of security and compliance audits. Research of potential exploits based on user or entity behaviors, endpoint threat detection, network behavior analytics, alerts/alarms, and managed security reports. Development of technical documentation, analysis, research and reports covering cybersecurity risk for on premise and cloud-based systems. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Demonstrated interest and/or experience related to: A current student or recent graduate of an educational program related to Cybersecurity Cybersecurity/IT Security principles, frameworks, applications, tools, and devices Experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint Strong communication and interpersonal skills Knowledge of programming languages a plus *Continued employment is contingent upon satisfactorily completing a criminal history records check (or other applicable security clearance) and a pre-employment drug-test (pre-identified position only).
