Job Title: Public Relations Specialist

This position is in support of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federally Funded Research and Development Program Centers (FFRDC). The FFRDC mission is to advance technical and analytic capabilities to help keep America safe.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Developing communication strategies, plans, campaigns, and outreach initiatives to enhance organizational visibility and engagement

  • Conceptualizing, designing, and executing digital publications for delivery across multiple platforms, including web, mobile, social media, and intranet sites

  • Providing data visualization support to create compelling and informative visual content

  • Coordinating and facilitating timely communication and outreach efforts with internal and external stakeholders

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop targeted content strategies and implement innovative communication engagement programs

  • Supporting the development of the virtual communications platform and other technological tools to enhance stakeholder communications

  • Serving as the primary point of contact for communications and outreach efforts, liaising with internal and external partners

  • Originating and refining communication guidance in accordance with prevailing DHS policies and templates

  • Developing and producing visual presentations, including briefings, posters, newsletters, websites, and other communication materials

  • Performing technical edits of documents to ensure accuracy and adherence to style guidelines

  • Maintaining strategic communications repository and provide support for outreach inquiries

    Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

  • Secret clearance

  • 3+ years of experience performing outreach-based activities and developing content for internal or external presentation or distribution

  • Federal meeting and event planning experience and the ability to work collaboratively with key internal and external partners and stakeholders

  • Knowledge in working within Adobe Creative Suite (or similar) and PowerPoint

  • Strong ability to develop reports and briefing materials in various formats with minimal direction from federal staff

  • Demonstrated outstanding written communication and presentation skills; organizational skills, multi-tasking capabilities, flexibility, and adaptability in adjusting material development quickly and effectively

    Desired:

  • 5+ years of experience performing outreach-based activities and developing content for internal or external presentation or distribution

    Work Setting and Environment:

  • Monday - Friday, normal working hours

  • Work is to be performed remotely

  • Must be able to report onsite in the DC area for meetings
