Direct Service Professional (DSP)

Do you enjoy being part of a team and helping others live their best lives? If so, our Direct Service Professional (DSP) job may be for you! 

 

Our DSPs are part of an interdisciplinary team that partners with individuals with disabilities and helps them lead the lives they envision. DSPs lead activities which are designed to foster independence, personal community, growth, integration, and social maturity. Our DSPs work in our Goodwill Services Center and may also work in an individual's home through our Homemaker Personal Care program. More details on specific needs will be discussed during the interview.

Examples of activities DSPs lead include cooking, laundry, working, volunteering in the community, attending social events (bowling, festivals, eating out, trips to the zoo or other entertainment and educational venues etc.), and celebrating birthdays and other holidays. You may also be required to provide personal care for some individuals and transportation in a company vehicle to and from the center or home and on scheduled outings. Services provided are guided by each individual's service plan in accordance with their needs and goals.

 

The job when working in the center is typically full-time 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays, but we may consider part-time. Pay is commensurate with experience starting no lower than $14 per hour. Paychecks are deposited weekly.

 

All staff are eligible to participate in our 403(b) plan and full-time employees receive paid time off, six paid holidays, and are eligible for health, dental, vision, and life insurance.

 

Being a DSP is one of our entry level mission services positions. While prior experience is certainly always a desired, we offer on-the-job training including provider certification, CPR and First Aid, and medication administration. Key qualities include dependability and compassion as well as:

  • Ability to work with all types of people and handle stressful situations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and follow instructions.
  • Will be subject to random drug testing policies including for cause and after accidents.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and not appear on any government registries that track abusers or other such offenses.
  • Good organization and time management skills.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Degree in social service and/or prior experience with individuals with disabilities preferred.
  • Driver's license and clean driving record.
