Job Description

About Our Team:

Due to the continued growth and expansion of our Nuclear Team in Warrington, we are looking to increase our technical workforce and are seeking to recruit a Level 3 Apprentice Civil-Structural Technician. Our Nuclear Structures team provide multi-disciplinary consultancy to the nuclear industry in both the nuclear new build and decommissioning sectors. In the new build sector, we are providing engineering support to the Developers of the UK’s fleet of new nuclear power stations.

Here’s what you’ll do:

As a Civil Structural Apprentice Technician you will be required to support senior engineers on tasks including the following:

• Produce detailed technical drawings and 3D models using CAD software (e.g., Autocad, Civil 3D, CADS RC, Tekla).

• Develop drawings and models for civil and structural elements, including foundations, beams, columns, walls, and other structural components.

• Update and maintain existing drawings and models as required.

• Work closely with civil and structural engineers, architects, and other design team members to understand project requirements and objectives.

• Ensure all drawings and models comply with industry standards, regulations, and company quality procedures.

On the job support and learning

When an apprentice starts at AECOM, we pair them with a senior member of the team who will guide and mentor them through their initial period working on live projects and business development tasks, to support with any technical queries. We also offer our apprentices the flexibility of working on a range of projects in the various service offerings and technical specialisms that our Practice delivers. This helps establish their areas of interest, and develops a firm sustainability grounding, that will allow our apprentice to choose the direction of their career.

Apprentice Development Programme

In addition to your identified external training provision in Civil Engineering Technician (Level 3) (usually delivered via day release or in block terms) our Apprentice ADVANCE programme is designed to help you build your career in AECOM. You will attend a number of instructor-led training sessions where you will meet and hear from people across the business and take part in a series of interactive activities to equip you with the knowledge and skills you need to succeed in your role. We will provide you with all the support and tools you need to achieve your professional development ambitions, including Chartership with the relevant international professional institution. Professional institute qualifications you may be able to work towards include EngTech then IEng acrreditation with ICE.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

This position is ideally suited to school leavers at GCSE -Level standard (or equivalent) who can demonstrate:

• Minimum of 5 GCSE’s (or Scottish Standard Grade or Junior Certificate in Ireland) at grade ‘C/4’ or above, including Mathematics & English

• Able to meet requirements for baseline security clearance in the UK

• Show an aptitude towards software-based engineering and drawing e.g. Computer Aided Design (CAD) and other similar 3D software

• Demonstrate an interest in and a desire to pursue a career in Nuclear/Civil-Structural Engineering

• Commitment to continued education and improvement through on-the-job learning and training opportunities.

• Creative, practical, adaptable and enthusiastic

• Ability to demonstrate attention to detail

• Ability to think in a methodical way to design, plan and organize parts of projects

• English language proficient, holding excellent communication skills to present information in speech, drawings and reports

• Able to carry out occasional remote working
