Job Summary

The Welder I is responsible for various types of weld preparation, welding and weld finishing operations to manufacture equipment to customer drawings, specifications, or other forms of instruction by using specific welding techniques and Weld experience, advanced skills, and judgment to complete. This position is located in the Warrenton, OR facility.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design, fabricate, join, and/or repair equipment, fixtures and various types of metal objects and structures using MIG, TIG, Inner shield, and Flux-cored Arc Welding (Dual shield) techniques

  • Determine layout of weld parts according to drawings and company/customer requirements

  • Weld according to AeroTech specifications. Applies specialized skills in procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment in area of expertise

  • Execute welds in all positions including from underneath, to the side, in a variety of shapes such as in a tube, and more

  • Assist during welding of components in areas of expertise. Teaches other welders proper techniques and procedures for mastered key weldments

  • Assist with design and set-up of work centers

  • Troubleshoot problems, identifies and communicates design discrepancies. Identifies and suggests design improvements

  • Complete required weld documentation including line check sheets, and material movement paperwork

  • Move weldment to the next process verifying it meets AeroTech specifications

  • Use material handling equipment to move parts, components, and weldments from one work or storage area to another as required

  • Recommend improvements to Weldment Procedures. May draft new procedures as assigned

  • Perform all duties in a safe manner and keeps all employees aware of dangers in work area

  • Practice good housekeeping in work area

  • Responsible for understanding and following all Hazardous Waste Management duties and responsibilities

  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the company’s discretion

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Technical / vocational / or military training or related experience

  • Two (2) or more years weld experience with at least one (1) years of experience in a similar environment

  • Ability to work productively and cohesively in a diverse and multicultural environment

Training Requirements (licenses, programs, or certificates):

Appropriate welding certifications, capable of meeting AWS D1.1 requirements, problem solving ability, crane and jib certification, and appropriate moving vehicle certifications.

Specialized Knowledge, Equipment, and Applications:

  • Knowledge of welding techniques including MIG, TIG, Inner shield, and Flux-cored Arc Welding (Dual shield); aluminum MIG is a plus

  • Ability to comprehend all engineering blueprints and written Engineering procedures

  • Demonstrated ability in troubleshooting and design discrepancy identification

  • Proficient in all key weldments

  • Ability to use personal computer or workstation

  • Demonstrate ability to use all appropriate tools, measuring devices, forklifts, cranes, and fixtures required

  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate personnel assignments within the department

  • Effectively communicate and solve issues that cross departmental boundaries.
