General Motors Manager, Software Engineer in Warren, Michigan

Job Description

This role is categorized as Hybrid or Remote. This means the successful candidate is able to work effectively and lead a team while not necessarily being physically located in Austin, TX or Warren, MI.

This role allows to be based remotely, but if you live within a 50-mile radius of a GM hub you are expected to report to that location three times a week, at minimum

What You'll Do:

  • Be a technology expert across software, infrastructure, build, deployment, and engineering processes

  • Lead and deliver exceptional software across many different languages and technologies

  • Mentor and develop technical talent from new college hires to senior software engineers

  • Develop a culture which takes challenging and complex ideas and turns them into production solutions

  • Have a broad, enterprise-wide view of business and varying degrees of appreciation for strategy, process, capabilities, enablers, and governance

  • Be able to critically solve problems in an interconnected and integrated environment

  • Must have the managerial courage to challenge the norm and define creative solutions for problems that arise

  • Responsible for staffing, communicating, training and development, directing and prioritization of work, evaluating performance and removing roadblocks.

  • Influence the team to develop the right solutions and features and be able to speak to the technical competence of the solution now and into the near future

  • Actively address impediments for the team across other workstreams and organizations

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or related experience

8+ years of developing cutting-edge, enterprise applications and leader of software engineering teams

Have led software engineering teams of 8 or more engineers previously

Experience programming sophisticated, enterprise-grade software systems

Demonstrated expert knowledge in software developmnt (java and JavaScript/CSS/html) on Azure cloud. E xpert knowledge in building, debugging and maintaining critical enterprise applications

Able to facilitate a productive engagement between engineering, product, and design

Demonstrated expert knowledge in multiple software development subject areas (i.e. Agile, Scrum, SDLC)

Expertise with Azure, Azure EventHub, Apache Kafka, Pulsar, Redis

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

5+ years of managing multiple engineering teams

Expertise in driving numerous projects across business and IT portfolios simultaneously

Coaching and training technical staff on new and emerging technologies

Strategic thinking in terms of engineering capabilities and technology to look ahead and deliver best-in-class software

Expertise in database modeling and data structure principles, techniques and standard methodologies
