Element Materials Technology Application Sales Engineer in Warren, Michigan
Overview
Element has an opportunity for an Application Sales Engineer. In this role you will be responsible for conversion of more complex requests for quotes (RFQ’s) to high quality bids and quotations. You will establish and maintain a strong relationship with clients throughout the sales cycle: proactively following up on leads for future business opportunities, being responsible for following up and converting more complex RFQs to high quality quotations per customer expectations and making detailed testing proposals.
The Application Sales Engineer must be able to articulate Element testing to both business and technical users. They must be able to identify all technical requirements of assigned accounts to assure quotations are complete and professional. In addition to client relations, this role will interact with the Element Sales Team, General Manager, and lab personnel. The ideal candidate will be customer focused, action oriented, approachable and patience.
Responsibilities
Proactively develop contacts and engage with customers using phone, email, web conferencing
Contact clients to qualify the potential of the quote request
Identify current and future customer service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual customers, acting as a liaison between the customers and Element
Receive and process request for quotations (RFQ)
Prepare quotes by studying blueprints, plans, and related customer documents; consulting with Program Managers, technical experts, and other technical staff within Element
Conduct document validation to determine non-standard methods
Calculate or establish pricing lead-time from standard price lists, local costing models, as well as from operational input
Follow-up on quotations for the assigned customer base and or quotations produced, providing clarification and modifications when required
Assist in entering more complex purchase orders when needed
Actively utilize CRM to record activities, ensuring contact details are accurate, duplicates are removed, new information is added and accurate call / visit logs are entered
Achieve sales goals by increased conversion and penetration of accounts
Build and maintain a working knowledge of Element’s service offerings; participate in training / coaching opportunities
Ensure compliance with all Element policies including but not limited to terms and conditions, trade compliance, treatment of others, moral code of conduct, and employee handbook.
Ensure adherence to all applicable laws pertaining to safety, environment and corporate governance
Skills / Qualifications
2 - 5 years of relevant technical experience, preferably with some sales responsibility or a degree in a closely related science or engineering subject preferred
Testing, metallurgical or composites experience a plus
A valid driver’s license, with an acceptable driving record under Element’s policy
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions and proportions and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions, data and details furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Experience in interpreting testing procedures and requirements
Proficiency in Microsoft Applications (Dynamics AX and CRM, Word, Excel)
Availability, flexibility, and maturity to represent the company at a broad range of events / projects in the community, with customers and within the company
Well-developed oral and written communication skills and good interpersonal skills
Ability to interface with clients, win new work and determine their requirements; helps develops proposals including cost estimates, work plan and terms and conditions
Some overnight travel may be required
