Mellott Company Fabricator in Warfordsburg, Pennsylvania

  • Candidate will have min. 5 +years experience performing structural layout and positioning of steel components on large weldments-based on the engineering supplied DWGs.
  • 5+ years experience in rigging/millwright background to allow safe handling and flipping of large weldments in our shop using jib and bridge cranes.
  • Comfortable working in a structural steel shop with multiple welding stations, coordinate fitment of items on other structural weldments from other departments.
  • Expert at layout with correct tools for the situation (Squares/Tape measures/lasers/stringline/torpedo levels/2,4,6 8 levels combination squares angle finders etc.
  • Proficient with math used daily to assure weldment has all items in correct position, square level.
  • 5+ years welding experience, capable of mig welding various wire thicknesses and some specialized wires (ex. hard facing) easily pass internal weld test and capable of performing multi-pass welds per out welding standards.
  • Good communications skills in a loud shop environment. Willing to take instructions from lead and supervision. Team player who has safety as priority one.
  • Capable of proficiently completing all tasks required withing our estimated fabrication estimate. Will be cognizant of hours applied to a project and speak to justifications on time spent on the weldment.
  • Capable of recognizing good and bad welds per Mellott Standards, assert efforts to repair any welds that are subpar before QA inspections.

  • Participates in safety toolbox meetings
  • Assists manager/foreman/superintendent as directed
  • Competent to perform layout using drawings, sketches, and verbal instruction.
  • Competent in reading measuring tools (tape, scale, angle finder, protractor and square) to 1/16 and or 1 mm as drawings require
  • Understanding what square is when fabricating and holding tolerances as described on drawings
  • Competent with welding mig/stick/tig and knowledge of general set-up of welding machines
    • Ability to interpret written directions/specifications
    • Ability to operate forklift/telehandler/manlift/overhead crane/metal saw/press brake/iron worker etc.
    • Trained in basic rigging principals and techniques
    • Willingness to work out-of-town for up to 2 weeks at a time, as required
    • Comfortable working off hours or OT as required to complete a project

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Willingness to further education by attending apprenticeship training or other job skills training offered by the company
  • AWS D1.1 welding certification, or the ability to undergo the testing to receive AWS D1.1 welding certification

    • Willingness to work off campus at a customers facility, as required
    • Comfortable working off hours or OT as required to complete a project

Education and Experience

Work Environment:

Work takes place in a climate controlled shop. Work is in a loud environment. Individual must be prepared to work in hot or cold temperatures. Individual may be exposed to fumes or chemicals. Personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses and steel toe boots, are required on the shop floor.
