About being our Assistant Construction Manager

You will manage the construction of multiple projects under the oversight of the CM/PM at the City of Sunnyvale's Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) located in the Silicon Valley. The ongoing projects are part of a series of planned upgrades and expansions at the WPCP, including new Secondary Treatment/Dewatering Facilities and the Rehabilitation of existing facilities over the next 5+ years. Based on Sunnyvale's overall Program, this is a long-term project with potential for growth.

Responsibility Highlights for our Assistant Construction Manager

  • Serving as an owner representative overseeing, performing, and coordinating daily construction management activities
  • Monitoring that the project is constructed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, budget, and schedule
  • Facilitating resolution of day-to-day construction issues
  • Interacting with clients, designers, owners, contractors, inspectors, and regulatory agencies including leading meetings and generating correspondence
  • Managing field construction activities and contract administration including staff and specialty subconsultants
  • Administering construction contracts including review of contractor's schedules, responding to claims received from the contractor, documenting progress of project, and answering requests for information, submit als, and change orders
  • Enabling project success while facilitating the resolution of project issues in a fair and firm manner

Minimum Qualifications to be our Assistant Construction Manager

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related engineering discipline
  • Active California Professional Engineering (PE) license or Certified Construction Manager (CCM)
  • 5+ years of related work experience including managing the construction or being involved with the engineering design of wastewater treatment facilities, public works infrastructure, and heavy civil projects
  • Knowledge of the construction process and the ability to read, understand and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, with minimal supervision and manage deadlines
  • Ability to work on-site in a construction trailer or building; ability to walk on uneven surfaces, stand, climb ladders, crawl, stoop, and enter confined spaces; tolerate heat, cold, dirt, odors, and other construction hazards may exist

Preferred Qualifications for our Assistant Construction Manager

  • Experience with water resources, infrastructure and/or public works projects
  • Experience with start-up, testing and commissioning
