Visiting Assistant Professor of Music - Piano Location: Walla Walla, WA Open Date: May 20, 2024 Deadline: Description The Department of Music at Whitman College is seeking candidates for a one-year position in Music, with expertise in Piano, at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, beginning August 2024. A completed terminal degree in a related field is required for the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor; candidates without a completed terminal degree will be considered at the rank of Visiting Instructor. The person in this position will teach Applied Piano, direct Whitman's Collaborative Piano Ensemble, teach Music in Society (our introductory music culture course, primarily for non-majors), and manage our staff Collaborative Pianists. This position also includes responsibilities as Piano Area Director such as coordinating and participating in piano-related activities including piano maintenance, auditions, studio classes, juries, and managing affiliated Studio Music Instructors and roster allocations. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate depth of expertise both in the studio and in the classroom, work well with students of varying levels of experience from diverse backgrounds, and contribute to our music faculty's collective and ongoing efforts to diversify our curriculum. The standard annual teaching load is five courses.
