The Geology Department and Environmental Studies Program at Whitman College are seeking candidates for a multi-year position with expertise in geology and environmental studies, at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, beginning August 2024. A Ph.D. is required upon starting the position. ABD candidates will be considered. The position may be renewed for an additional year pending positive evaluation of teaching. The successful candidate will teach several courses in geology including Environmental Geology and an introductory geology course in the applicant's area of expertise. They will also teach two interdisciplinary courses in Environmental Studies (Introduction to Environmental Studies and Environmental Studies Senior Seminar). The annual teaching load is five courses. The successful candidate will have the option of participating in the Geology Department's twice yearly, 4-day Regional Geology field trips. The Geology Department and Environmental Studies Program value creative approaches to integrating teaching and scholarship and cultivating inclusive learning environments.
