Walla Walla Community College is accepting applications to fill the part-time role of Seasonal Winery & Vineyard Support Worker on the Walla Walla Campus.

General Responsibilities:

As a Seasonal Vineyard and Winery Support Worker, this position will play a crucial role in assisting the Cellar Master/Vineyard Manager in various tasks related to grape cultivation, wine production, and general vineyard operations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to immerse yourself in the vibrant world of winemaking and vineyard management.

Essential Functions:

Winery Operations

  • Provide assistance during winemaking processes, including fermentation monitoring, barrel maintenance, and cellar operations.
  • Help with bottling and labeling activities, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in packaging procedures.
  • Assist in general winery cleaning and sanitation to maintain high standards of hygiene and safety.

Vineyard Maintenance

  • Assist in vineyard maintenance tasks such as pruning, trellising, and canopy management under the guidance of vineyard manager.
  • Participate in pest and disease control activities, including scouting for pests, applying treatments, and monitoring vine health.
  • Support irrigation system maintenance and operation to ensure optimal vineyard hydration.

Harvest Support

  • Aid in harvest activities, including hand-picking grapes, sorting, and transporting harvested grapes to the winery.
  • Assist in operating grape processing and pressing machinery during the harvest season.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the harvest area to ensure smooth operations.

General Support

  • Assist in general vineyard and winery tasks as needed, including equipment maintenance, facility upkeep, and landscaping.
  • Support special events and tastings by setting up event spaces, pouring wine samples, and interacting with visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Follow all safety protocols and regulations to ensure a secure working environment for yourself and others.

Required Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in agricultural or vineyard work
  • Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Able to lift 40 pounds, bend and stand for long periods of time
  • Able to work flexible hours to accommodate seasonal demands

     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have a Washington MAST card, or be willing to obtain MAST within 60 days of hire

     

Terms and Conditions of Employment

This part-time temporary position (up to 17-hours per week) is located at the Walla Walla Campus.
