Description of Work

Salary Grade: NC23 Salary Range: $76,290 - $148,765

The primary purpose of Location and Surveys Unit is to provide statewide engineering and geomatics analysis in the development of transportation facilities and acquisition of property in accordance with the best professional engineering and surveying practices consistent with all laws and regulations governing the State Highway System.

We are looking for a Regional Project Development Engineer.

In this role you will:

  • serve as one of the Department’s subject matter experts in relation to Geomatics and Surveying issues.

  • contribute to establishing and implementing statewide policies relative to geomatics engineering for the Department.

  • direct and administer significant duties and/or functions for a large geographical region through providing engineering judgement and administrative leadership.

  • oversee and lead coordination of projects and field activities through managing project and personnel resources.

  • ensure the delivery of all engineering surveys throughout an assigned region for all STIP projects and other survey activities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:

  • Experience utilizing the principles and practices of Engineering and Land Surveying as defined by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors (i.e.., GPS, geodesy, property law, etc.).

  • Experience utilizing specialized geomatics engineering and/or program knowledge in making independent and final recommendations and decisions and/or serving as a subject matter expert on surveys.

  • Experience directing and managing multiple geomatics operations between several L&S field offices and/or Private Sector Engineering Firms over a large geographic area.

  • Experience interpreting and communicating innovative or complex geomatics engineering design concepts and techniques in a clear, concise, and organized manner.

  • Experience conducting and approving NCVIP performance management reviews, defining and implementing operational goals and objectives; addressing work processes and procedural issues and managing staff and resources effectively to meet the department’s project delivery, operational goals, and objectives.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience including three (3) years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
