Description of Work

Salary Grade: NC18 Salary Range: $59,752 - $104,566

The primary purpose of this organizational unit is to provide Statewide engineering and geomatics analysis in the development of transportation facilities and acquisition of property in accordance with the best professional engineering and surveying practices consistent with all laws and regulations governing the State Highway System. Assigned tasks vary in complexity and scope and are reviewed by senior level staff.

These tasks could include:

  • Procedure analysis, documentation, and reporting of new technical procedures.

  • Compilation and updating of Unit procedures, policies, and processes.

  • Facilitation of meetings, documentation of activities and follow-up action items.

  • Research of new and innovative technologies.

  • Facilitate activities with TEAs, interns, and educational institutions.

  • Facilitate Unit safety program and safety audits.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Experience utilizing the principles and practices of Civil engineering and Route Location surveying.

  • Experience anticipating and developing solutions to unique geomatic/surveying problems.

  • Experience analyzing geomatic/surveying processes and supporting the development of new ways to improve operations.

  • Experience prioritizing work and managing multiple priorities, developing work schedules, and monitoring goal progress.

  • Knowledge of the functions and duties of the various units, branches, and Divisions of NCDOT.

  • Experience communicating technical information in both oral and written media to varied audiences.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualification:May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
