RESPONSIBILITIES

I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for managing the day- to-day functions, services, and activities of security operations.

• Ensures functions, services, and activities are performed efficiently and effectively and in accordance with regulatory requirements and the policies and procedures of the Queen’s Medical Center (QMC).

II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Continuous: standing, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, static gripping of an object for prolonged periods, frequent gripping of an object.

• Frequent: sitting, stooping/bending, climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground, finger dexterity, lifting and pushing/pulling usual weight of 25 pounds; reaching above, at and below shoulder level, repetitive arm/hand motions.

• Occasional: kneeling, crawling, squatting, twisting body, lifting maximum weight of 50 pounds; pushing/pulling maximum weight of 100 pounds; carrying weight of 25 pounds up to 50 pounds.

• Pass annual physical given by Employee Health.

III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Exposed to both inside and outside environmental conditions.

• Subjected to noise and/or vibration when assisting patients or handling restraints on a patient.

• Exposure to body fluids, blood products, and communicable diseases.

• Work environment may be highly stressful, fast paced, and hectic.

• Exposed to electrical hazards, fire hazards and unsafe conditions and may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, hazardous chemicals and materials, intense heat, extreme cold, natural and manmade disasters and hazards associated with working in and near traffic.

• The noise level in the work environment varies from moderated to extreme.

• Meets and complies with qualifications set forth in QMC Fleet Safety Policy.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Associate’s degree in law enforcement or social sciences preferred.

• Academic background necessary to write complete, accurate reports.

• Current State of Hawaii Guard Registration card.

• Valid U.S. driver’s license required in accordance with Hawaii state law rules and regulations.

• Supervisory training preferred.

• Current BLS certification.

B. EXPERIENCE:

• Three (3) years experience as a security or law enforcement officer, or in the military with at least one (1) year experience as a security officer in a healthcare facility.

• Prior supervisory/leadership experience.

• Prior security officer experience in a comparable Medical Center preferred.

• Experience to demonstrate:

o Knowledge of criminal and scientific investigative principles, practices, methods, techniques, and equipment; pertinent city, state and federal laws and ordinances.

o Ability to read, write, speak and understand English and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
