Wabash Trucking LLC Diesel Mechanic -- B Tech in Wabash, Indiana
POSITION SUMMARY:The Diesel Mechanic - B Tech will work alongside our team of shop employees to maintain fleet vehicles/assets and increase the efficiency of Wabash Truckings maintenance department.
REPORTS TO:Service Shop Supervisor
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains a working knowledge of, and moderate skill proficiency in the following vehicle components and systems, with the ability to perform preventative and repair maintenance functions, both on-site and on the road.
- Chassis component repair and maintenance.
- Truck bodies, including control, hydraulic and electrical systems; Air and hydraulic braking systems.
- Engine repair and maintenance.
- Suspension, drivetrain, and steering systems.
- Heating and air conditioning systems.
- Line maintenance welding and fabrication.
- Identifies the source of the malfunctions using a variety of electronic tools.
- Completes applicable company training programs.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Valid Drivers License required.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Trade school diploma preferred.
- ASE Heavy Truck Certifications (T1 through T8) are a plus but not required.
- Class B or higher CDL is a plus but not required.
- 4+ years of experience as a technician working on heavy-duty trucks preferred.
COMPETENCIES:
- Extensive knowledge of all aspects of maintenance and repair.
- Proficient with related computer diagnostic equipment and software.
- Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues.
- Ability to read service and repair manuals.
- Ability to read work orders.
- Ability to complete required paperwork to document work and parts utilized.
- Ability to perform repairs in a timely manner.
Requirements
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Physical Activity: Talking, hearing, repetitive motion, stooping, crouching, standing, walking, lifting, and climbing stairs.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.
- Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
- Visual Acuity: ability to inspect repair work and determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
