School Summary:

Washington Connections Academy (WACA) is a tuition-free, virtual public school serving students in grades K-12 statewide. WACA has two schools under its umbrella of shared-services model. It operates in partnerships with the Mary M. Knight School District and Goldendale School District and under contract with Connections Academy to provide its educational program and other services. Both Washington Connections Academy schools are candidates for accreditation with Cognia.

Washington Connections Academy Mary M. Knight is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement, the Northwest Accreditation Commission, and the Southern Association of Colleges & Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI), which are accrediting divisions of Cognia.

Position Summary:

Working from our office in Tumwater, WA, or home-based within Washington, the Assistant Principal will assist the Principal in managing the overall school operation including teachers as they use the phone and Internet to consult regularly with learning coaches and students, ensuring that each child successfully completes their instructional program.

Additionally, this individual will work closely with key centralized service centers including Enrollment, Technical Support, Materials Management, Fulfillment, Finance, Human Resources, Payroll and Facilities Management. It is also anticipated that this individual will manage a range of special projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the implementation of the proven Connections Academy curriculum and school operation protocols;

  • Ensure that teachers exhibit and maintain a high level of professionalism, instructional support and customer service;

  • Ensure the academic success of individual students by utilizing all levels of academic support available and by maintaining a high level of communication with parents to deliver program information and address individual student needs;

  • Support student learning through instructional coaching and staff development, parent relationships and community partnerships;

  • Contribute to a positive school culture, including but not limited to using tools and events to promote a healthy culture like surveys, socials and recognitions

  • Assist teaching staff with implementing any program changes and/or new software application introductions;

  • Develop and lead the Teacher Induction and Onboarding Program

  • Exhibit high quality communication with all Connections Academy school staff, students and families;

  • Handle student problems escalated by parents and teachers;

  • Support the implementation and coordination of state standardized testing process, and ensure high student participation rates;

  • Support School Leadership in creating and monitoring the school’s school improvement plan;

  • Motivate and supervise staff in pursuit of school goals;

  • Provide assistance to families in need of additional support encourage a high level of participation;

  • Participate in student recruitment efforts including in-state trips, presentations, Q & A sessions and responding to the press;

  • Communicate with parent Community Coordinators to suggest social activities and relevant field trips for students;

  • Devise and implement virtual methods of creating and maintaining a “school community”;

  • Recruit, supervise and evaluate staff as required by the state;

  • Serve as a member of the K12 Leadership Team

  • Stay current on the state’s policies, procedures and legislation

  • Be available to handle all emergencies; and

  • All other duties as assigned.

    Requirements:

  • Residence in Washington preferred

  • Washington Administrative License required

  • Masters in Educational Administration or similar field

  • Leadership/Management experience

  • 3+ years teaching experience, general education K-8 preferred

  • Student-centric

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, especially to groups

  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced environment

  • Technologically proficient (especially with Microsoft Office and Google products)

  • High degree of confidentiality, flexibility, agility, and commitment to learn

  • Willingness to travel for state testing, school and marketing events (may require overnight travel)

  • Ability to work occasional evening hours, as needed to support students and families

  • Ability to effectively work remotely
