Job Description:

Location: Bellarmine Campus, Bridgeport, CT

Reports to: Assistant Dean for Student Success

Job Summary:

The Career and Internship Counselor is responsible for providing guidance and support to students seeking internships, co-ops, and other career placement opportunities. The counselor will work with students to identify their career goals and help them find internships and career placements that align with those goals. The counselor will work with employers to establish partnerships and develop internship and career opportunities for students. The counselor will also provide workshops and presentations on a variety of career-related topics, and will collaborate with other departments and organizations to support student success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise and support students as they explore meaningful career options (either after their associate degree or bachelor's degree) and identify internship opportunities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with employers to establish internship and career opportunities for students

  • Assist students in job and internship application and selection process, including resume and cover letter review, interview preparation, and offer negotiation

  • Assist students in developing their resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profile

  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate experiential learning opportunities into academic programs

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student internship placements and outcomes

  • Attend job fairs, employer information sessions, and other recruitment events to promote internship opportunities to students

  • Participate in the development and implementation of career development programming for students

  • Provide one-on-one career counseling and coaching to students, helping them to identify their strengths, career goals, and job search strategies

  • Collaborate with faculty and staff on credit-bearing internships

  • Working with the Assistant Dean for Student Success on other student support services

  • Other duties assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (Master's Preferred)

  • 3-5 years of experience in career counseling, student affairs, or a related field

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with career development software

  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, including FERPA and non-discrimination laws

  • Understanding and appreciation of the Jesuit mission and values within higher education.
