Summary This position is located at US Mint,Headquarters - Protection Directorate. As a Supervisory Police Officer (Sergeant), you will: Enforce Federal and local laws relating to the protection of human life and the preservation of the civil rights of individuals. Protect Mint buildings, grounds, employees and assets in custody or in the process of production. Apprehend and arrest persons considered extremely violent, mentally disturbed or intoxicated. Responsibilities Key Information: *This announcement will establish a roster to be used for future vacancies for any Mint facility. Certificates may be issued from this roster for up to one year after the closing date of the announcement (until the Notification of Results (NOR) is exhausted or a new NOR is issued). *With this announcement being a roster, you have the opportunity to compete for this job even if you do not meet all the requirements (i.e. specialized experience and time-in-grade) for this job yet. As long as you meet all requirements within a year from the closing date of this announcement, you can be considered and take the Sergeant Promotion Assessment. However, you can only be referred for possible selection once you have met all requirements. *The salary shown on this announcement is only the base salary. Additional locality pay will be added based on the duty station of the position filled. Specialized Experience: For the TR-09, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the TR-08/GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Performing work in a law enforcement environment that has provided knowledge in the areas of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order, protecting life and property, preservation of the peace, prevention, detection and investigation of crimes and the apprehension of violators. In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the TR-09 you must have been at the TR-08/GS-07 level for 52 weeks. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: All employees must wear face masks while on MINT property when required by CDC and Federal guidelines. This position is designated as emergency essential. The incumbent must be ready and able to deploy as required in support of varied contingencies and under severe and austere conditions. The incumbent may deploy for brief periods during a contingency event. A one-year probationary period may be required. A one year supervisory or managerial probationary period may be required. Must successfully complete a background investigation. Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency. May be required to undergo an income tax verification (if applicable). Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, three-shift basis, 5 days a week. Work schedules may vary and assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be available to work on all three shifts on a rotational basis. May be required to wear safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include equipment belt, body armor, riot gear, etc. All applicants tentatively selected for this testing designated position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and random drug testing while the position is occupied. Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory. Possess a valid state motor vehicle operator's license upon appointment OR within 90 days of appointment (as appropriate) and maintain a valid license while you occupy the position. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONTINUED : Pass a pre-employment physical examination meeting agency medical requirements (if applicable) meeting the following standards: Distance Vision - Uncorrected distance vision must be at least 20/70 (Snellen) in each eye, and corrected to at least 20/20 (Snellen) in each eye. Near Vision - Corrected or uncorrected, must be sufficient to read the Snellen Acuity Test at a distance of 13 inches. Ability to distinguish basic colors is required, as are normal depth perception, peripheral vision, and accommodation. Hearing - Using the ISO or ANSI scale, applicants/employee, without the use of a hearing aid, must have no hearing loss in one ear of more than 40decibels in either the 500, 1000, or 2000 cps ranges. Using the ASA scale, applicants/employees, without the use of a hearing aid, must have no loss in one ear of more than 30 decibels in any of these ranges. Use of a hearing aid in the other ear is permitted where such use does not interfere with safeguard efficient job performance or the wearing of protective head gear. Any other disease or defect of the ear which adversely affects hearing or equilibrium and which interferes with safe and efficient job performance is disqualifying. Nose, Mouth, and Throat - Any chronic disease or condition which interferes with distinct speech or with free breathing (with or without a breathing apparatus) is disqualifying. Respiratory System - Any chronic disease or condition affecting the respirator) system which would impair the safe and efficient performance of the full range of duties of the position is disqualifying, e.g., conditions which result in reduced pulmonary function, shortness of breath, or painful respiration. Cardiovascular System - The following conditions are disqualifying: Symptomatic heart disease, with or without medication; Elevated blood pressure with repeated readings which exceed 160 systolic and 100 diastolic, with or without medication; Low blood pressure with repeated readings which are less than 105 systolic and 60 diastolic, with or without medication; Symptomatic peripheral vascular disease and varicose veins manifested by ulceration or discoloration of the skin. Nervous System - Applicants/Employees must possess emotional and mental stability with no history of a psychotic or basic personality disorder. In cases where applicants/employees have a history of epilepsy or convulsive disorder, each instance must be individually considered on its own merits to determine if the person is able to perform safely and efficiently, given his or her medical condition.
