Ithaca College SUPERVISOR - DINING HALL STUDENT CENTER in United States

The Supervisor at Campus Center Dining Hall:

  • Assists the Manager and Assistant Manager in overseeing residential dining operations.

  • Provides direct working oversight for the dining hall while on duty, including the functional supervision of full-time, part-time, and student staff.

  • Enacts conflict resolution, ensures compliance with health and safety measures, and supports all other operational functions related to daily business.

Supervision:

This position reports to the Manager and Assistant Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct, in-person, working supervision of front-of-house operations while on duty.

  • Arrange daily operations and services to ensure employees have appropriate equipment, inventory, and resources to perform their jobs and meet goals and deadlines.

  • Work alongside staff members to model safe and efficient operations and performance expectations.

  • Motivate, encourage, and support staff performance through regular hands-on training.

  • Monitor all front-of-house procedures and provide objective coaching and feedback based on operational standards, code compliance, and productivity standards.

  • Oversee the sanitary condition and attractive presentation of service stations and the dining room.

  • Meet with students, faculty, staff, and guests to solicit feedback and address concerns related to the unit to ensure outstanding customer service.

  • Ensure employees’ adherence to food safety protocols and policies.

  • Develop and maintain an in-depth, working knowledge of all dining software solutions.

  • Complete register and credit card reports, resolve bank logs, and guarantee the security of daily tender.

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and IC policies and procedures (e.g., quality assurance, safety, operations, personnel).

  • Develop and demonstrate a multicultural awareness and cultivate an inclusive, diverse, and respectful Ithaca College community. Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, students, and visitors to the College. Promote a flexible, collaborative, and inclusive work and living environment and engage in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 1-2 years professional experience working in a food service operation or other relevant setting.

  • Excellent customer service aptitude.

  • Proven experience in coaching and supervising employees and the ability to adhere to and train staff in the service standards as set by Ithaca College Dining Services.

  • Basic food handling knowledge.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to provide excellent customer service while working effectively and respectfully within a diverse and inclusive environment.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, overtime, and some holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional education and experience including collegiate/university food service.

  • Awareness of food safety and application protocols.

  • Knowledge of culinary applications and familiarity with an array of cuisines.

  • Working knowledge of food preparation procedures and equipment, proper sanitation, and HACCP procedures.

  • ServeSafe Certification.

Work Environment:

The Supervisor at Campus Center Dining Hall completes work within an accessible, safe, indoor, and occasional outdoor environment. Long periods of walking, standing, bending, and carrying moderately heavy items (up to 50 pounds) may be necessary. Employees will be issued and/or required to wear slip-resistant shoes.

This position is 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.

Hiring Range:

$21 to $23 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
