Generac's Clean Energy team is seeking a talented Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team in Waukesha, WI. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for leading design and development activities of new products as well as design improvements to various products in Generac’s Clean Energy business group. This position reports to the Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities

Key Result Area: Create specifications and technical documentation; detailed design analysis; research on existing materials and manufacturing processes; planning and organizing for on time project delivery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Specifies precise new product functional requirements; designs and integrates a variety of moderately complex components to produce final designs; and evaluates the design's overall effectiveness, cost (including cost/benefit analysis), reliability (risk analysis), and safety.

  • Performs engineering analysis of major systems and components to ensure proper function and validate them for implementation.

  • Leads design related activities generated by warranty assessments, development tests, sourcing and manufacturing driven needs.

  • Responsible for the completion and release of the engineering documentation such as CAD drawings, and assembly instructions for complex machinery and assembly.

  • Conducts and documents calculations and analyses including but not limited to, tolerance analysis, static & dynamic structural analysis, and cost optimization studies.

  • Conducts DFMEA and owns and executes Design Validation and Verification Plans and Results (DVP&R).

  • Collaborates closely with strategic global sourcing through the creation of statement of requirements (SOR). Works with vendors, sourcing and quality to ensure the specification of the components is met. Interfaces with the supplier to implement their input in the final component design.

  • Creates and executes product development plans (schedule, product cost, meeting design inputs)

  • Works closely with the test resources and facilities to execute test plan.

  • Mentors and coordinates other less experienced members of the team as necessary.

  • Travels to other Generac facilities and vendor sites as necessary.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline

  • 5 years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with GD&T and statistical stack up of tolerances

  • Experience with machine design

  • Background in Electrical enclosure design and agency certification

  • Background in renewable energy systems

  • Integration experience with Energy storage systems and/or power electronics

  • Good understanding of residential construction and electrical wiring

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Technical Skills to include 3D modeling (Creo) FEA (Creo Simulate or ANSYS)

  • Knowledgeable in manufacturing techniques for sheet metal and plastic components

  • Applies engineering knowledge and experience to improve products, services and processes

  • Able to solve complex engineering problems

  • Strong decision-making skills

  • Great ability to work in a dynamic environment and strong tolerance for ambiguity

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Microsoft software including Excel, Project, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint

The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job include are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
