Position Summary

The Specialist Systems Engineer is responsible for overall technical leadership and responsibility for the technical realization of a key feature sets or complete new product introductions. This position reports to the Engineering Manager and is the technical stakeholder working within the project constraints of schedule, cost, performance, quality and reliability objectives.

Essential Job Functions:

• Plans, oversees and executes the Systems Engineering activities in the project, including initiation, coordination, synchronization, review and integration of the technical work performed within various engineering disciplines, constrained within project schedule, cost, performance, quality and reliability objectives.

• Drives refinement and translation of user and stakeholder requirements including clinical, marketing, service, reliability, and manufacturing.

• Development of technical approach including system and subsystem architecture and product inter-compatibility.

• Leads derivation/budgeting/allocation of system/subsystems requirements and interfaces.

• Technical stakeholder for system or sub-system aspects of the product release.

• Responsibilities will include a combination of system definition, technical deep dive/design, and technical project management.

• Leads cross-discipline feasibility and tradeoff studies.

• Leads cross-discipline engineering team through standups, ad hoc and recurring meetings and is the technical interface to the cross functional team (e.g. operation, service, marketing, etc.

• Plans and executes system-level design reviews for own project and is the reviewer for others.

• Leads the preparation of documentation, including usability engineering, risk management, System Design Document, configuration documentation, DHF etc.

• Leads system integration (follow up, analysis, problem solving)

• Defines testing requirements and strategy and drives formal verification & validation.

• Helps define the tools and best practices of the Systems Engineering community and mentors junior systems engineers.

Education, Job Knowledge, Skills, Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Systems, Electrical, Software, Mechanical or related Engineering fields.

• Demonstrated ability in leading evolution of a complex features, where analysis requires both evaluation of multiple candidate solutions and significant evaluation of intangibles.

• Ability to propose methods, techniques and evaluation criteria to realize the feature.

• Systems modeling and simulation experience a plus (e.g. MATLAB, Simulink, Labview).

• Broad technical working knowledge of multiple engineering disciplines (EE/ME/SW) and solid understanding in Controls, Algorithm Development, and Data Analysis desired

• Minimum 10 progressive years of intensive experience in a regulated (e.g. Medical Devices, Aerospace) environment in a systems engineering capacity.

• Five years involvement in a multi-discipline project development environment.

• Good communication, influencing and conflict resolution within R&D and extending to all cross functional teams. Good technical documentation skills.

• Systems thinking acuity.

• Six Sigma background desired.

• 10% Foreign or Domestic Travel required.

Pay range for this opportunity is $98,750.00 - $148,050.00.

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
