As an in-house Senior Staff Attorney in the area of workers compensation for The Hartford, you will join a collaborative, team-oriented contemporary work environment that includes a strong focus on work-life balance and personal growth. Our Senior Staff Attorney is a fully remote position that may litigate cases throughout the State of Florida, with a primary focus in Central and South Florida.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze complex legal and factual issues

  • Conduct extensive and develop well-reasoned legal research

  • Independently create and present defense strategies on behalf of clients

  • Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies with autonomy

  • Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, as needed

  • Partner with our Claims Partners to achieve the best results for our clients

  • Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients on legal and factual issues

  • Communicate with the Court, witnesses, and opposing counsel with professional diplomacy and discretion

  • Facilitate prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases

  • Research, draft and file pleadings on behalf of clients

  • Provide in-house training to junior associates and/or claims partners

  • Participate in claims file reviews

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 7 years of legal experience handling primarily workers compensation files

  • JD from accredited law school and license to practice in the State of Florida

  • Positive-minded and collaborative team-player attitude

  • Strong legal research and writing skills

  • Solid MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)

  • Lexis Nexis experience is a plus

  • Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills

  • Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required

  • Trial experience is required

  • This position is a remote work opportunity with virtual coverage in the current environment; however, in-person appearances and travel will be required as necessary

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$123,360 - $185,040
