Description

TriMet is seeking to fill a position in the Transit System Asset Support department at TriMet. This is a relatively unique career opportunity for someone looking to work in a dynamic environment, and grow their experience in transit vehicle maintenance support and project management. The position primarily focuses on TriMet's Light Rail Vehicles, but could branch out into supporting bus projects as well.

Perform engineering duties as a fully competent and accomplished engineer in all conventional aspects of rail vehicle engineering. Perform duties related to design, operation and modification of rail vehicles and electrical control systems, component overhaul programs, and the management of light rail vehicle (LRV) mid-life overhaul projects. Duties include administration support, field inspection, testing, preparation of test reports, data collection and analysis, systems and component failure analysis, technical report writing, maintenance of as-built drawings, and review of submittals, drawings, and electrical schematics. Assignments may require independent evaluation, selection, adaptation, and modification of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Assignments may include similar duties for TriMet's bus fleets.

This role requires being onsite a minimum of four (4) days per week.

Serve as a good steward of TriMet by regularly utilizing our transit system to maintain a strong and current understanding of customers’ experiences and of TriMet’s product and service offerings.

Essential Functions

  • Provide services related to TriMet's rail vehicles and electrical control systems. This includes work related to the overhaul and maintenance of light rail vehicles, including their electrical and mechanical systems and components.

  • Review and approve product and systems submittals for compliance with contract requirements and TriMet design criteria.

  • Develop, design, and produce criteria, engineering standards, requirements, specifications, and drawings for all aspects of rail vehicle engineering.

  • Evaluate and prepare modifications to rail vehicles including justifying the functional feasibility, validating the design and impact on corresponding vehicle systems, and evaluating impacts to vehicle reliability.

  • Review and evaluate engineering designs prepared by consultants, vendors or other agencies to ensure adequacy, completeness, economy, operational feasibility, and maintainability.

  • Assist with and/or lead in a project management role with the administration of contracts relating to LRV mid-life overhaul. Coordinate with consultants and other internal and external stakeholders.

  • Prepare minutes, documentation, specifications and technical reports, and review such material generated by others. Assist with preparation of contract specifications and bid documents.

  • Coordinate contractor work to ensure proper scheduling of activities and to ensure minimal impact to on-going TriMet light rail operations.

  • Witness and document testing of various rail vehicle systems and equipment. Troubleshoot problems which occur during testing.

  • Coordinate the work of consultants, engineering technicians, drafters and other support staff as required for specific assignments, and within the guidelines provided by the Engineering Manager.

  • Investigate LRV incidents and systems failures, prepare failure analysis reports and design systems modifications to improve the safety and reliability of the LRV fleet.

Position Requirements

A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree is required with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering being preferred.

A minimum of four (4) years of experience are required. *

Three (3) years of engineering experience in an area directly applicable to vehicle engineering, inspection, or construction are required.

Three (3) years of experience as a practicing engineer are preferred.

Professional Engineer registered and licensed in the State of Oregon is preferred.

Or any equivalent combination of experience and training.

*The amount of credit a candidate receives for prior years of experience is based on the relevancy of that experience to the required or preferred prerequisites of the job description. Experience is prorated based on hours worked. LRHR assigns and validates the "credited experience".

Salary Range

Minimum: $99,064.00

Maximum: $148,597.00

Salary offers will be determined by a candidate’s education, training and relevant experience. Any final offer of employment will fall within the range stated above. For transparency, we choose to list the full available grade range, however, TriMet’s salary administration process will ultimately determine the final salary offered.
