We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Legal Assistant to join our Tort group on the Chicago Staff Legal team. Attention to detail and ability to multitask will be essential in this role. The ideal candidate will be expected to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality in all aspects of their work, while enjoying a high-volume, paperless, remote environment that is both dynamic and rewarding!
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Utilizes appropriate software to timely prepare correspondence, discovery, briefs, motions, pleadings, and other documents required by the attorney
Creates/edits court documents consistent with State and Federal court requirements
Manages assigned attorneys’ calendar and docket based on meetings, court notifications, and depositions
Schedules depositions and meetings with needed parties
Assists attorneys in preparation for trial and discovery
Reviews incoming mail and document production
Maintains electronic legal files and document management
Offers professional diplomacy during each interaction with clients, opposing counsel, home office staff, claim partners, and court employees
Assists in overall support of the broader legal team, as needed, which may include: back-up support, case matching, CD duplication, PDF compilation, file conversion, printing, mailing, external file transfer, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Legal Assistant in a law office or corporate law department
Tort experience, especially Auto, Personal Injury and General Liability, is strongly preferred
Insurance defense background is preferred
Strong multi-tasking, organizational and time management skills, especially regarding prioritizing work activities for multiple attorneys
Trial support experience
Demonstrated capacity to work with Illinois county court and Federal court systems
Demonstrated knowledge of Illinois Supreme Court Rules and Illinois Code of Civil Procedure, as well as familiarity with court practices
Proficiency with case management software
Must be able to format/edit electronic documents such as PDF, TIF, and JPG formats
Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office tools to quickly format documents (Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint)
Adaptable to changes in technology and applicable resources
Motivated and proactive problem solver
Ability to meet productivity targets in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Successful candidates will have experience in a high-volume litigation environment with experience in document production, discovery preparation, and data maintenance for clients

This is a fully remote position that may require occasional travel to downtown Chicago office for yearly in-office visits or as needed at time of trial.

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$54,160 - $81,240
