    WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

    CHI is looking for a Part-time Rental Supplement Program Counselor for our Nassau location. This position will include travel and field related work. Great opportunity at a growing non-profit agency for the right candidate. Help us grow our Housing Retention Services in Suffolk County. . This is accomplished by performing the following functions:

  • Respond to referrals via HMIS and collaborate with referring agencies to collect and upload client eligibility information.

  • Prepare initial, annual, and interim income certifications as outlined by Suffolk County’s HUD CoC funded programs.

  • Work with new clients, including initial discussions, completion of all intake forms and review of financial documents. Execute basic math skills.

  • Contact all participating households at least once every three months regarding moves, changes in household composition or monthly income, budgeting issue and supportive services.

  • Responsible for all required reporting and compliance – cases must be managed in accordance with New York State requirements; including database and file management.

  • Experience working with clients experiencing homelessness/residing in shelter.

  • Knowledge of the local housing market and available resources.

  • Conduct annual unit inspections to ensure housing quality standards are met for potential participants.

  • Contact landlords to mediate Housing Quality Standard issue, lease renewal and potential client repayment plans.

  • Connect clients with needed and available community resources. Follow-up with clients and agencies as appropriate to document use/success of the referral.

  • Maintain up-to -date records in AWARDS and HMIS. Document all interactions in a clear and concise manner.

  • Establish good working relationships with referring agencies.

  • Represent the company with community outreach and events.

  • Remain up to date with industry standards and increase professional and technical skills through continuing education annually

    WHAT DO I NEED?

  • Education: Bachelors' Degree in a related field preferred. Extensive experience may be substituted for educational requirement.

  • Experience: Basic knowledge and understating of Federal, State and local homeless and housing programs and rental subsidies.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in English required. Bi-lingual (Spanish} is a plus.

  • Computer Skills: Basic competency in MS Windows, MS Office, and on the Internet. Math Skills: Must be excellent.

  • Physical Performance: Walking upstairs, driving, and set up conference rooms.

  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to prioritize, make appropriate decisions and judgment calls.

  • Other Skills: Ability to work independently or as part of a team, be highly organized, assume responsibility, work well under pressure, meet deadlines, multitask, be flexible, and maintain a high level of attention to details. Must be even­ tempered, have good negotiation skills, and the ability to meet unexpected deadlines.

  • Valid driver's license and automobile insurance.
