Job Description

The Postdoctoral Research Associate is responsible for the application of remote sensing in plant phenotyping and precision agriculture. The Postdoc is expected to assist in proposal development, produce project reports, present research findings at conferences, and publish peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals.

Responsibilities:

The Crop Ecophysiology and Precision Agriculture Laboratory at Texas A&M AgriLife Research in Lubbock is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position with a research focus on the application of remote sensing in plant phenotyping and precision agriculture, especially using remote sensing for crop stress assessment and precision water application. We conduct exciting research in remote sensing and data analytics to investigate the factors contributing to the sustainability of agricultural systems, including spatial and temporal variability of plant growth and soil properties, crop stresses, and crop productivity. The Postdoc is expected to assist in proposal development, produce project reports, present research findings at conferences, and publish peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals.

Required Education and Experience

A Ph.D. in agronomy, crop science, soil science, crop physiology, agricultural engineering, geosciences, or environmental science.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge, experience, and proficiency in the areas of remote sensing and digital image processing; experience in UAV image processing is highly preferred.

  • Demonstrated programming skills in Python or R are highly preferred.

  • Experience in the application of remote sensing in plant phenotyping or water management is preferred.

  • Experience in machine learning and big data is preferred but not required.

  • Strong skills in statistical analysis.

  • Demonstrated scientific writing proficiency; at least one refereed journal article is required, preferably on remote sensing-related topics.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team across institutions, excellent communication, and organizational skills.
