Responsibilities Serve as the program lead, statewide technical authority, and primary advisor and expert to leadership and staff for the Abandoned Mine Lands and Hazardous Materials Management (AML/HMM) Programs for Alaska. Prepare or coordinate reports, planning documents, studies, technical program/project reviews, manuals, and correspondence related to the AML/HMM Programs. Prepare and conduct necessary training to support competency of field office staff and managers to apply AML/HMM Relevant laws, regulations, Executive orders, and directives. Coordinate, develop, and oversee the statewide budget process relevant to the AML/HMM programs including planning targets and annual work plans. Coordinate CERCLA response activities for BLM Alaska with local, state, tribal, and federal partners, and provide technical and scientific advice to field offices. In addition to meeting the education requirement, you must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 level in at least two of the following examples: 1) experience leading a team developing methodologies, to investigate, assess, and propose remediation of sites that contain hazardous materials, this work must have included elements of environmental engineering, geology, and related sciences; 2) perform field work using the principles of environmental engineering, geology, and closely related sciences, e.g., geophysics, geochemistry, or hydrology; 3) prepare and present documentation (reports, briefings, letters, etc.) covering complex environmental engineering, geology and related scientific information to a wide range of audiences. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Education This position has a positive education requirement which requires that you have a degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that includes 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics OR have a combination of education and experience - education equivalent to one of the above majors that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
