Position Summary

Manage and lead team of Manufacturing Engineers and the Advanced Manufacturing Department in developing, designing, and maintaining manufacturing processes in order to provide the safest work environment for our employees, the most efficient use of our labor force, on-time delivery, and the highest quality devices is critical to the success of STERIS.

What you will do

  • Manages a team of manufacturing engineers and manages the Internship and Co-op program. May at times have co-op reporting responsibilities.

  • Aids with management of projects and priorities and production scheduling where applicable.

  • Holds teams and direct reports accountable for individual and department goals and project timelines.

  • Active in continuous improvement efforts and data analysis to drive decisions, priorities, and recommendations with emphasis on labor efficiency, scrap/rework, capacity, and equipment utilization.

  • Leads or supports problem solving efforts including CAPA responses.

  • Participates in internal and external audits.

  • Provides timely feedback to the team utilizing a strength-based approach to resolve problems and issues.

  • Stays current on best practices in medical device manufacturing.

  • Serves as liaison between New Product Development and Operations.

  • Drives ISO, FDA, and Quality Compliance through interpretation and development of Quality System Procedures.

  • Makes Capital recommendations and coordinates budgets.

  • Manages multiple projects while focusing on changing Customer (internal and external) needs and priorities.

  • Anticipates potential project hurdles and actively plans contingencies.

  • Presents to technical and non-technical audiences in project meetings, plant meetings, board meetings, audits, etc.

  • Represents the Operations function in key meetings when the department head is unable to attend.

  • Analyzes unplanned downtime, develops corrective actions, and establishes a proactive plan to reduce or eliminate future occurrences.

  • Enforces, promotes and reviews Preventive Maintenance Program for facility, and enforces safety practices, Lockout/Tagout and proper use of PPE for the assigned department.

What you will need to be successful

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Master’s degree in Business Administration, preferred.

  • Minimum of 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience. Tool and die and CNC programming background highly preferred.

  • Minimum of 2+ years of management experience.

  • Effective time management skills and the ability to adapt to shifting priorities.

  • Experience in a medical device manufacturing environment, preferred.
