Position Summary

The Manager, Health Safety & Environment is responsible for providing HSE support, advice and solutions, ensuring compliance, and developing best practice on health and safety issues for the STERIS corporate and select EU/UK business segment operations (e.g., Life Sciences, Healthcare Field Services/Install and Device Repair) as required. The position is also responsible for driving high standards of safety performance enabling the STERIS business to achieve its HSE objectives.

Working closely with regional management and the operational business to champion, communicate and ensure the delivery of the regional HSE strategy with the objective of making and keeping the business safe against existing and emerging health and safety, fire prevention and environmental risks. Building internal HSE competence and capability through the delivery of HSE support, training, audit and review.

Duties

Health, Safety and Environmental Management (85%)

  • Provide proactive, efficient and professional HSE advice, coaching and support to identified businesses and functional teams.

  • Ensure that effective alignment and management of HSE systems, and procedures to STERIS and/or statutory requirements. Support affected operations and service teams to implement and maintain HSE management systems within the business, and that managers and employees at all levels are aware of their HSE responsibilities.

  • Organize, lead and administer the local safety meetings, ensuring the active participation and engagement by all required internal and external stakeholders.

  • Support the development, completion and ongoing review of risk assessments (including COSHH, PUWER), advising on the suitability and application of risk control measures, identify and report on inadequately controlled risks and non-compliance with statutory or internal non-compliance.

  • Support the effective implementation of HSE management systems, policies, performance standards, procedures and guidelines.

  • Support the development of a HSE training matrix and deliver training and other engagement initiatives that improve employee awareness, competency, and safety performance.

  • Monitor and report on training completion, performance and compliance, using feedback to identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Support the organization as a subject matter expert in workplace safety and behavior-based observation processes, measures of success, and Associate training.

  • Ensure that all incidents, accidents, near misses and crises are appropriately reported, investigated, escalated and managed per STERIS and/or other legal requirements.

HSE Audit Program Administrator (15%)

  • Maintain compliance with STERIS policy/programs, and HSE regulations including the requirements of the ISO 14001 / 45001, ensuring that non-compliances are promptly reported, and corrective actions raised, tracked and completed.

  • Support the STERIS HSE compliance assurance program such as but not limited to the completion of self-assessments and closure of material significant findings.

  • Work with allocated sites, site managers, regional teams and senior operators to communicate and drive compliance with HSE standards to ensure a safe working environment.

Required Experience

Experience with internal HSE management systems and compliance audits

Experience in implementing HSE programs

Ability to build relationships and lead teams indirectly

Experience with multi-site operations.

Experience of managing and maintaining Safety and Health

Management Systems (ISO 45001) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001).
