Michaels Manager - Financial Reporting in United States
Support Center - Irving
The Manager - Financial Reporting will be responsible for managing Michaels' external and internal financial reporting process, ensuring compliance with US GAAP rules, and filing financial statements for equity holders, lenders, and internal parties. This position will also have a heavy role in technical accounting research for unusual and non-routine transactions for Michaels. This role is responsible for executing the Company’s monthly internal financial reporting processes in accordance with policies, procedures, and controls and leading, developing, and managing team members. The Manager - Financial Reporting is also responsible for continuous assessment of processes against emerging best practices, performing appropriate benchmarking, conducting process improvements, and identifying/implementing enhancements.
Major Activities
Preparing the Quarterly and Annual Reports and managing the internal and external review of these documents.
Ensure proper compilation of the financial statements, including statement of cash flows.
Ensure proper calculation of certain key metrics, including comparable store sales and adjusted EBITDA.
Complete monthly financial statement analyses and manage the creation and distribution of internal financial reports.
Perform technical accounting research and analysis, including standard implementations, debt extinguishments and unusual transactions.
Maintain Essbase reporting hierarchies and ensure consistency between the Essbase and Oracle systems.
Analyze variances, root causes, and underlying trends in order to improve business decisions and improve forecasting.
Manage/coach onshore team frequently to address common issues, trends, and problems and to identify innovative improvements and solutions to processes.
Fulfill the business partnership role for financial reporting, with a focus on profit and process improvement, providing support to the management team, accounting and finance organizations, and field teams, as well as other cross-functional and cross-divisional business partners.
Certify all internal controls over financial reporting within financial reporting on a quarterly basis.
Prepare and review audit schedules in support of public disclosures.
Work with internal and external auditors to ensure successful audits. E
valuate changes in the business or systems environment that may have an impact on financial reporting. Review such changes to internal controls and procedures with the Internal Control department. Proactively address changes prior to implementation to ensure controls are not negatively impacted.
Lead a team of accountants and support their ongoing growth and development.

Minimum Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Minimum Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
Minimum Special Certifications or technical skills
CPA required
Proficient in Excel
Strong knowledge of financial statements, internal controls, SOX, and US GAAP.
Minimum Type of experience the job requires
Minimum 6+ years of experience, including technical GAAP accounting experience
Minimum 3 years of SEC reporting experience
Supervisory experience required
Other
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
