RE Tech Advisors is seeking experts in carbon strategy, carbon accounting, and climate risk management in the built environment to join our Climate Risk Solutions (CRS) practice area! Working across multiple sectors – including commercial real estate, private equity, and investment lending – we partner with clients to design and implement programs focused on building decarbonization and climate risk. Our group of trusted advisors and problem-solvers is committed to delivering scalable and actionable solutions that transform the built environment and mitigate the impacts of climate change. In this role, you will be responsible for day-to-day project management responsibilities, inclusive of client, project, budget and people, executing on established plans, and managing under the direction and oversight of a Senior Manager.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform day-to-day project management responsibilities, delivering excellence and client satisfaction for all work you manage.

  • Oversee the implementation of client projects that include a range of components. Climate Risk Solutions tasks include, but are not limited to:

  • Calculate, monitor, track, and report on greenhouse gas emissions and property performance, including development of formal carbon inventories.

  • Identify appropriate energy efficiency and sustainability measures, to include low- and no-cost strategies as well as CapEx projects.

  • Support for third party reporting, such as CDP, SFDR disclosures, and sustainability reports, as requested by the Sustainability Programs team.

  • Coordinate with vendors to support implementation of procurement strategy for renewable energy, green power, RECs, offsets, and other decarbonization products.

  • Implement physical risk process of identifying, evaluating, and recommending risk mitigation measures related to future climate scenarios.

  • Provide insight and thought leadership on decarbonization trends and best practices to the broader market—to include potential publication, public speaking, conference presentation, and other opportunities.

  • Support day-to-day budget management by inputting and updating hours allocations and budgets created and overseen by the Sustainability Programs Director/Senior Manager, review of time entries and reject incorrect entries; monitor time billed against allocations and address hourly budget issues.

  • Support and contribute to the development, career progression, performance management, and engagement of the Climate Risk Solutions Team. Provide coaching, training, and feedback, as appropriate, to team members directly as well as to their supervisor and providing input on their goals and development plans, helping to track progress.

  • Participate in the Talent Acquisition process to support hiring needs on your projects.

  • Contribute to business development efforts.

  • Support delivery of appropriate education, exposure, and experiences within your team. Help ensure that existing and new staff within your team are trained as appropriate for their role in team offerings, services, and processes, as well as any changes or additions therein.

  • Effectively and appropriately utilize the RE Tech Rotational Program staff to perform work. Train or oversee the training of RE Tech Rotational Program staff and manage to ensure accurate completion of work.

  • Properly and accurately track all time worked and expenses in BigTime, billing to the correct codes and using the correct labor categories.

  • Know and follow company policies and processes.

  • Perform all other duties as needed and assigned.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of greenhouse gas emissions and decarbonization strategies, to include two or more of the following:

  • Carbon accounting—including methodologies, calculations, and guidance such as the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard

  • Carbon reduction targets and disclosures—including Science-Based Targets, CDP, carbon neutrality, net zero, SFDR, renewable energy commitments, etc.

  • Decarbonization strategies—including energy efficiency, renewable energy, green power procurement, renewable energy certificates (RECs), and carbon offsets.

  • Knowledge and understanding of climate risk related to physical and transition risk.

  • Knowledge of clean energy project finance methods such as PACE, energy-as-a-service, power purchase agreements, solar tax equity, etc., and/or private equity, investment, and/or finance sectors is a plus.

  • Strong understanding of building systems and the ability to think critically and creatively about energy efficiency.

  • Comfort with managing data-driven tasks in Excel and other software platforms, including some complex calculations and estimation methods.

  • Advanced knowledge with online collaboration and file sharing tools, such as SharePoint and the Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).

Required Education and/or Experience

  • At least one to two years of experience handling day-to-day task level management and client communications on a small project or portion of client program, and/or experience operating in a similar capacity to this role.

  • Experience developing greenhouse gas inventories, energy efficiency and/or decarbonization strategies, and/or supporting implementation of energy and/or decarbonization projects for clients at scale across large commercial estate portfolios.

  • Experience delegating tasks and overseeing the work of others.

  • Experience in a client facing consulting role, delivering professional services, and building relationships across clients and internal teams.

Travel Requirements

Periodic travel is required for the role. Travel may include travel to RE Tech offices, if remote, or between RE Tech offices (Fairfax, VA and Dallas, Texas) for meetings (estimate of four times per year), as well as for Legence and/or client business needs.
