Job Summary

Under general supervision, is responsible for performing duties over natural area personnel assigned to servicing parks daily and performing preventive maintenance on equipment. Exercises direct supervision over assigned crew.

8400 N.W. Military Hwy. ( Phil Hardberger Park)

Work Schedule

6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.; Monday - Friday . Shifts are subject to change to accommodate evening, weekend, and holiday shift work as dictated by business needs.

Essential Job Functions

  • Supervises, schedules, and may participate in the activities of skilled and semi-skilled workers assigned to perform maintenance, repair, and installation functions.

  • Maintains records and prepares progress reports.

  • Maintains inventory of parts, and equipment; orders parts and equipment as necessary.

  • Performs inspection of equipment, structures, and systems for proper operations.

  • Provides protective safety equipment and ensures it is safe and operational; checks work site for safety hazards and reports to supervisor.

  • May supervise grounds maintenance and landscape functions.

  • Provides daily reports both verbally and in writing of work needed, accomplished or in progress.

  • Ensures all equipment is operating in an appropriate and safe working condition.

  • Inspects work in progress and upon completion to evaluate performance according to instructions.

  • Communicates with assigned crew and may often perform movements of walking, sitting, stooping, climbing, standing, reaching, and crouching to operate all equipment used, may frequently lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds when performing or inspecting maintenance work.

  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).

  • Four (4) years of maintenance experience to include One (1) year of experience as a foreman or crew leader.

  • Must possess the appropriate Texas driver's license plus any required endorsements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to read and write English.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Familiar with City Administrative Directives.

  • Experience with trail and vegetation maintenance.

  • Experience with equipment and facility maintenance.

  • Experience operating heavy equipment.

  • Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

  • Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.

  • Ability to schedule, assign, and monitor workloads for assigned crews.

  • Ability to lead and supervise the activities of a crew.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

  • Ability to train employees in the type of work being performed.

  • Ability to follow instructions.

  • Ability to give directions to subordinates.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

with others.

  • Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.

  • Working conditions are both indoor and outdoor with exposure to temperature extremes, unfavorable fumes and odors, and hazardous chemicals.
