Description

BridgeValley CTC invites applications for position of Financial Aid Counselor beginning as soon as possible. This is a full-time, overtime exempt, benefits-eligible, appointment providing financial aid counseling and related information to prospective and current students. Other responsibilities to provide services, as well as conducting financial aid workshops for potential students and their parents. Actual offer will commensurate with experience.

Examples of Duties

• Process student financial aid paperwork including verifications, appeals, special circumstances, etc.

• Conduct FAFSA workshops both on campus and at off-campus recruitment locations Counsel students on a daily basis regarding institutional, state, federal financial aid options

• Create forms, web updates, emails, and mail correspondence with students and prospective students

• Serve as a front-line customer services representative in the Office of Student Affairs addressing student financial aid concerns

• Serve as a collaborative member of the student services staff by participating in registration, orientation, and recruitment events

• Attend conferences/training sessions as needed and required

• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in an area related to the position (equivalent combination of education and additional experience may be considered)

• Knowledge of computer information systems and the ability to operate a personal computer, including a computerized financial aid management system (preferably BANNER)

• Ability to rapidly comprehend and apply various institutional, state, and federal guidelines governing enrollment management and financial aid issues

• Math and analytical skills for the manipulation and presentation of data

• Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records as required FERPA

• Effective and professional written and verbal communication skills are needed to uphold and project a positive image of the Office of Student Services and BVCTC to internal and external constituents

• Demonstrated sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and employee

Preferred

• Prefer at least one year of experience providing good customer service and the ability to maintain composure in difficult situations

• Prefer at least one year of higher education experience in Academic Affairs or Student Affairs

• Prefer at least one year experience in the application of institutional policies, procedures, and practices

• Prefer working knowledge of the application of Financial Aid practices and policies
