Overseas Private Investment Corporation Finance Internship in United States

Summary Unpaid internships with DFC are offered year round in Washington, D.C., and can last from 12 weeks to 12 months. Duties vary based on the department and/or office in which the intern is placed. DFC's Internship Program offers valuable experience that contributes to educational and professional growth, and may be applied in any future employment endeavor, including federal, state and local governments or in the private sector. Responsibilities Interns working for a Project Team in Finance, graduate interns have exposure to international project finance and work in collaboration with seasoned financiers in the loan origination process. Graduate interns serve as junior analysts and may be involved in all stages of project approval as part of a project team. Interns typically work on three to six transactions, depending on the complexity of the projects and the amount of time an intern is available. Typical duties include: Reviewing applications for financing; Reviewing existing financial statements of the sponsor or of the project; Building, analyzing and running sensitivities of financial models of projected project cash flows; Writing country political and economic summaries and political risk analyses; Preparing portions of loan papers being presented to Credit or Investment Committee; Collaborating with Investment Officers to present the proposed loan to an approval committee; Working with members of other departments to receive required policy clearances; Working with a project team to assist in the processing of disbursement requests; and Review newly submitted applications for financing and for political risk insurance to identify which parties need to have Character Risk Due Diligence ("CRDD") conducted. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Applicants must be United States citizens actively enrolled in a relevant graduate degree program in an accredited college or university on at least part-time basis. Specific programs include: Finance, Accounting, International Affairs, International Development, International Relations or International Economics. Actively enrolled means that you have not had a break of more than 5 months since your last course. Previous work experience, particularly in Business or International Business, is required.
