We are currently seeking an Engineering Manager II on our Mechanical Team for our site in Charleston, TN.
What you will do:
This position leads the team to bridge the gaps in technical expertise for critical equipment classes in Polysilicon Process and Facilities Engineering. The Mechanical Expert Team provides this expertise as an internal service unit in a matrix function. Specialized equipment repairs, design specifications and key workflows for key equipment categories will be executed and/or overseen by the Mechanical Team.
Considered relevant equipment is pressure vessels and piping, rotating equipment, pressure relief devices and others as necessary. This position's main purpose is management of the team, give guidance to team and consult site leadership on strategic decisions. The manager of this team is expected to also contribute personally to work done by the Mechanical Team.
Managerial duties including:
Ensure teams compliance with work processes
Guide and support team members in their daily work
Coordinate and manage responsibilities and workload of team members
Lead, develop, and evaluate team members (4-6 direct reports)
Specialized Duties including:
Drive and support continuous improvement activities related to safety, quality, cost and equipment reliability and availability
Support process and technology transfer/exchange between Wacker’s Polysilicon production sites
Cooperate with groups and individuals within the Engineering & Maintenance department, Mechanical Integrity, QA/QC, Operations and other service units with focus on achieving optimal results/solutions from a corporate/enterprise perspective (both interdisciplinary and intercultural)
Conduct and/or coordinate troubleshooting activities and root cause analyses
Act as lead interface with Plant Engineering managers for work handover and support resourcing
Represent Wacker’s interests towards authorities, suppliers and contractors
Ensure all required trainings are timely made by all team members in his/her area of responsibility
Strategic planning and optimization of equipment specific workflows including summative reports on key equipment (e.g. technical compliance, equipment health, costs, technological changes, …)
All other assigned tasks
What we need from you:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering; Mechanical or Chemical is preferred
8+ years of industry relevant experience (Pulp & Paper, Refineries, Chemical, Power plants, or other PSM facility)
6+ years of leadership experience
Strong organization skills, with proven systems to track and communicate on multiple priorities
Ability to perform and succeed in an environment of schedule and cost pressure
Capability to professionally deal with changing priorities and requirements
Thorough technical knowledge in the fields of mechanical engineering, incl. relevant regulations, maintenance strategies, standards, and codes
Leadership skills combined with team player attitude
Objective judgment and fact based decision making approach
Strong multitasking competency
Ability and willingness for domestic and international (mainly to Germany) travel as needed
Proven expertise in stationary pressure equipment (pressure vessels, heat exchangers, reactors) and/or rotating equipment (pumps, compressors) in the fields of design, maintenance, repair planning and technical standards and codes
Materials of construction and welding procedures expertise
