Boyd Corporation Division Controller – Converting Operations in United States

REQUIREMENTS

We are searching for an energetic, seasoned, accredited and certified Division Controller that has 7-10 years of financial leadership experience operating in a fast paced, high growth manufacturing environment. This position is expected to have a high level of ERP systems knowledge (costing, work order management, inventory management, etc.) and be able to quickly acclimate to the work culture and integrate seamlessly into the continuous improvement and lean management atmosphere.

This position will be based out Pleasanton (CA) and will be responsible for 3 plants in Modesto (CA), Portland (OR) and Gaffney (SC). Position may require periodic travel to these locations.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Converting Division Controller is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting functions for three manufacturing locations in our North American Converting Division. This position is expected to provide strong financial leadership, develop strong working relationships across the Boyd organization, benchmark and deploy best practices and maintain a robust control environment. We are a lean organization and this position will require a very “hands-on”, “roll-up the sleeves” and “get your hands dirty” mentality.

This position reports to the Vice President of Operations Finance and is responsible for a multitude of financial activities including journal entry preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit engagements and the support of periodic budget and forecasting activities. This position will interface with the VP, Operations (North America), the Plant leadership teams, the Corporate Controller, and our CFO and CEO which requires strong interpersonal communication skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and execute a timely and accurate monthly close process supported by a detailed report-out with the VP, Operations (North America), Plant Managers, Corporate Controller and VP of Operations Finance

  • Prepare, in close cooperation with the Division Management team, the monthly Operating Review package that is presented to the Sr. Management team

  • Proactive analysis of variances compared to Plan and prior year results.Must be able to articulate financial operating results and assumptions into terms that are understandable and actionable

  • Assist in the identification, implementation and tracking of profit improvement initiatives.Must be able effectively participate and contribute to the requirements of the business

  • Review commercial contracts to evaluate and mitigate financial exposures

  • Work closely with Operations Management to track and manage the Risks and Opportunities

  • Review and approve monthly sales commissions

  • Forecast weekly cash requirements

  • Monitor the monthly and quarterly Bank Compliance activities, including account reconciliations, are performed in a timely and accurate manner

  • Support the annual budget and monthly forecasting activities; Drive initiatives to improve forecast accuracy

  • Pro-active A/R past dues management, minimizing AR write-off exposure

  • Ensure effective controls around inventory movements

  • Balance sheet reconciliations

  • Assist in the preparation of capital spending requests

  • Audit preparation and physical inventory readiness

  • Ensure compliance with established company financial policies

  • Collaborate with the other finance team members to support overall goals and objectives of the Company

  • “Can Do” mentality

  • Define policies and procedures for all cost accounting activities and effectively communicate and train plant personnel on operating procedures

  • Support the financial leadership team with special projects as required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting or Finance with a strong academic record

  • 5 to 7 years progressive experience in accounting management, preferably as an Accounting Manager or Controller in a manufacturing environment

  • Experience with R4, MAS, J.D. Edwards or other large automated accounting system a plus

  • Strong experience with Microsoft Office Products

  • Prior supervisory experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Proven experience in driving process improvements

  • Demonstrated leadership and history of driving change and making a difference

  • Ability to lead, motivate and support accounting team

  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

  • CPA is a plus

  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate/connect with non-accounting professionals

  • Strong verbal, writing and presentation skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills required

  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required with a positive and professional attitude
