United States Steel Category Manager II in United States

This Category Manager is responsible for the strategic sourcing and supplier management of Capital & Site Equipment & Services: Mill Rolls and related support services, Mill Rolling and Finishing Equipment, machined and fabricated goods, and capital (capex) equipment and services to support US Steel North American manufacturing locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsibilities are within the Procurement Function supporting the commodities noted above.

  • Performs strategic sourcing activities including category strategies development, supplier relationship management, contract strategy development, conducting contract RFPs & RFQs, supplier proposal analysis, negotiations, awards and implementations.

  • Responsible for all vendor performance and the on-going management of strategic supplier relationships.

  • Develops and maintains integrated processes with cross-functional partners (e.g., operations, procurement operations, logistics, etc.) and external suppliers.

  • Proficiency in leading teams in conducting supplier negotiations with financial/bid analysis with Indirect categories.

  • The ideal candidate is experienced in building strong relationships with external suppliers, as well as at Steel, Mining or other Industrial Manufacturing plant sites.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Business, or Related Field.

  • Minimum 5 years of working experience in Procurement, Supply Chain, Operations, or related field.

  • Proven ability to work in a dynamic environment and obtain desired results.

  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills. Decision making and sound judgment are a necessity, as is the ability to perform well under pressure and to communicate and work effectively with all levels of management.

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks.

  • Excellent analytical skills and proficiency with technologies, and MS Office based software packages.

  • Hybrid work arrangement (HQ in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania). Periodic domestic travel to conferences, USS sites and supplier locations is required.

Salary: $70,000-$100,000K/yr. This base salary range is a good faith estimate. Based on candidate skills/experience the final offer may be lower/higher.
