Job Description

The Athletic Academic Class Checker monitors and ensures that student-athletes maintain their academic eligibility by attending classes, completing assignments, and meeting academic standards set forth by the institution and athletic department. This role requires a keen attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a dedication to fostering academic success among student-athletes.

Responsibilities:

  • Class Attendance Monitoring: Track and verify attendance of student-athletes in their enrolled courses. Regularly communicate with instructors to confirm attendance and participation levels.

  • Academic Performance Support: Collaborate with academic advisors and faculty to address any academic challenges student-athletes face.

  • Reporting and Documentation: Prepare detailed reports on student-athlete attendance and academic status for review by the academic coordinator and athletic director. Document any patterns of academic struggle or attendance issues and recommend appropriate interventions.

  • Compliance and Policy Adherence: Stay informed about institutional policies and NCAA regulations regarding athlete academics and eligibility. Ensure adherence to all academic policies and procedures within the athletic department.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Presently enrolled at Prairie View A&M University for at least nine (9) graduate or six (6) undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done.

  • Must be in good academic standing (SAP) as demonstrated through your college; minimum 2.0 GPA

  • No prior experience necessary

  • For work eligibility during a summer term, a student must be enrolled for at least three (3) graduate or undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done or preregistered at least six (6) undergraduate semester hours or nine (9) graduate semester hours for the upcoming fall term.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple groups, including faculty, coaches, and student-athletes.
