Glimpse of the Job and Opportunity to Contribute

The Associate Director, Information Technology is the conduit to ensure operational and service excellence for Transportation Services. Provide thought leadership on best practices and themes in the context of strategies and challenges with a goal of balancing client expectations and the best interests of the University. Taking a collaborative approach, plan, organize, staff, lead, and unify operations. Manage and coach a team of technical professionals ensuring professional development. Proactively manage incidents and client requests and develop, oversee, and lead services or projects to ensure client expectations are met or exceeded.

Salary: $120,000 - 130,000 annually

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent combination of education and experience AND Eight years of related Information Technology experience

A well-qualified candidate would also possess:

  • Knowledge of the maintenance and installation of computer and network equipment

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding

  • Ability to understand risks inherent in business models, craft alternative scenarios and communicates trade-offs and advantages

  • Knowledge of how to develop and share mental models that enable people to solve thorny problems and find new sources of relevant information

  • Skills in extrapolating business priorities and objectives, using them to set direction for active professional learning

  • Knowledge in how to use relationships to acquire objective coaching and to develop themselves

    Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Personnel Management: Provide leadership for IT Staff and junior IT leaders. Oversee the recruitment, hiring, and supervision of large and/or multiple teams staffed with IT team leaders/managers, multi-disciplined and/or more senior technical staff, and support staff. Oversee that enforce ethical, regulatory, and performance standards. Oversee and manage personnel issues.

  • Strategic Planning: Share authority and accountability for setting, directing, and implementing strategy.

  • Operations Management: Oversee, design, and control the process/es for supporting the delivery of strategic information technology services. Monitor and analyze operational metrics. Implement continuous improvement methodologies to include corrective actions, as needed.

  • Customer/Vendor Relations: Maintain, establish, and develop new strategic partnerships with executive management, stakeholders, customers, and vendors.

  • Policy: Participate in the development of IT policy and procedures for a specialized university IT department/unit to ensure information security, and IT architecture are in compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements. Collaborate with other IT executive leaders to formulate effective IT policies and procedures.

  • Project Management: Manage key portions of the departmental IT project portfolio.

  • Documentation: Oversee operational documentation and reporting procedures.

  • Advanced Enterprise-Level Technical Support: Provide advanced enterprise-level technical support.

  • Professional Development: Participate in training and professional development sessions.
