The Associate Administrator, Finance & Accounting position will work with various fiscal and operational functions for the Keck Medical Center's Ambulatory and USC Care overall budget, planning and analysis needs as well the operational leadership and oversight of accounting responsibilities for the USC Care, in conjunction with the CFO of USC Care. In coordination with the CFO of USC Care, this position will also serve as a liaison to the System departments responsible for financial planning, analysis, decision support, capital/supply chain, and controller's services. In particular, the Associate Administrator will coordinate the USC Care's annual budget process, working with USC Care leaders to develop and meet operating Budget targets. They are responsible for operations management of the USC Care accounting team, in collaboration with System controller's services. The incumbent will work with leaders and USC Care and Systems Decision Support to develop financial analyses, proformas, and financial models to further key operational plans and growth strategies. The Associate Administrator, Finance & Accounting, will coordinate USC Care month end review and accounting close with System Finance and USC Care Revenue Cycle, providing analysis and key findings to the CFO of USC Care. This position will work closely with Faculty Practice, Community Medical Group and all relevant Ambulatory USC Care service areas to ensure accuracy of capital spend and co develop cash flow of projections. This position will assist the CFO of USC Care with managing the funds flow arrangement between Health System and Keck School of Medicine clinical departments, and the annual budgeting process for health system support. In conjunction with the CFO of USC Care will develop USC Care's long-range plan in collaboration with USC Care Ambulatory leadership, System Strategy and System Decision Support. The Associate Administrator in conjunction with CFO USC Care coordinates with the Health System level office of Accounting and Financial Reporting, Revenue Cycle, Supply Chain and Purchasing, Health Information Management, Strategic Financial Planning, and Decision Support and Budgeting to ensure adequate service to USC Care. The Associate Administrator, Finance & Accounting will serve as the key finance resource to USC Care department leaders and will be the back up to CFO of USC Care in their absence.

Essential Duties:

  • Manage and lead the budget and monthly variance reporting process for Keck Medical Center USC Care/Ambulatory

  • Using the decision support system to develop and analyze key business opportunities. Serve as key resource in developing statistical and profitability reports for KMC USC Care/Ambulatory.

  • Responsible for improving upon entire processes or systems, leveraging on personal past experiences and in- depth understanding of best practices in the marketplace that may improve the competitive position of the organization.

  • Focus is on short- to mid-term strategies (e.g., 1-3 years) to achieve business results, which may require substantial development of new processes, standards or operational plans to achieve strategies.

  • Oversee and manage the production and interpretation of financial reporting for USC Care working at an enterprise level with Health System and KSOM leaders.

  • Responsible for analyzing, interpreting, and presenting, professional financial data for Keck Health System and KSOM senior leadership including the system CEO, CFO, Clinical Chairs and other leaders to support enterprise level financial decisions.

  • Recommends business plans and strategies that directly impact achievement of overall division results

  • Establishes and implements tactical and operational plans for the sub-function, with impact on the achievement of business unit results.

  • Responsible for the operations management of the USC Care accounting team in production of USC Care monthly and year end financial reporting. Coordinate with Keck Finance in the consolidation of the monthly reports and the integration into the new Health System corporate structure.

  • Evaluate budget variances and make recommendations on appropriate corrective actions.

  • Prepare and present monthly budget and financial performance reports to KMC Leadership.

  • In conjunction with CFO of USC Care develop, monitor, and evaluate business plans in alignment with the KMC USC Care/Ambulatory and health system’s goals and objectives.

  • In conjunction with Controller’s Services Team complete and analyze month end financial results. Participate in year-end audit process for KMC USC Care/Ambulatory.

  • In conjunction with CFO of USC Care develop, monitor, and evaluate KMC 5 Year Plan; and associated strategic investments.

  • Manages a team consisting of other managers, and has hiring, firing, promotion and reward authority within own area, in accordance with organization guidelines.

  • Develops, with the help of the responsible department heads, standard operating procedures for the departments under oversight.

  • Responsible for developing management objectives and policies and monitoring the results.

  • Serve as the key finance resource to Hospital department leaders and will be the back up to CFO of USC Care their absence.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Req Bachelor’s Degree Business, Economics, or Commerce, with major/emphasis in Accounting

  • Req Master’s degree

  • Master's Degree not required with 15 years of experience

  • Req 8-10 years Healthcare accounting/finance experience.

  • Req 3-5 years Management experience in healthcare finance/accounting related field.

  • Req Advanced knowledge of Excel and experience with Lawson, budgeting, and other cost accounting systems.

  • Req Highly effective written and verbal skills and ability to multi-task as demands change.

  • Req Analytical and critical thinking skills to effective problem-solve financial and operational issues.

  • Req Demonstrated ability to adapt easily to change and lead others in a team environment.

  • Req Experienced Manager with the skills and experience to function independently.

  • Req Demonstrates ability to utilize effective, appropriate, and diplomatic oral and written communication skills.

  • Req Thorough knowledge of federal and state regulations as it relates to hospital finance/reimbursement issues; GAAP accounting and reporting; healthcare cost accounting and expense management techniques

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pref Over 10 years Experience preparing and analyzing acute care healthcare budgets, proforma developments and understanding of acute care Ambulatory Decision Support.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

The annual base salary range for this position is $191,360.00 - $315,744.00.
