Formed in 2016 to combine the areas of Career Services, Experiential Learning, and Civic Engagement, The Mays Center for Experiential Learning and Community Engagement provides enhanced learning opportunities and access to resources and relationships in order to develop students into career-ready and community-minded graduates.

This position will provide professional career guidance and services to students and alumni affiliated with Texas A&M University-San Antonio with a focus on serving those studying in assigned college. Services include assisting students in identifying career goals and the development of career interests, development of career related outreach presentations and workshops to students and classes, administration and interpretation of career assessments, and the support of career fairs for multiple areas. In addition, this position will foster relationships in the greater San Antonio community for the development of employment and internship opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee graduate student career development program and Graduate Assistant(s) in supervision and training.

  • Develop learning outcomes and produces reports with updates to program goals.

  • The candidate in this position will provide excellent customer service to employers, students, and the community.

  • Serve as primary career advisor for current undergraduate and graduate students and alumni in assigned college.

  • Serves as a secondary career services support for all other colleges.

  • Support all students and alumni affiliated with Texas A&M University-San Antonio during office drop-in hours or similar.

  • Assist students in identifying career goals and the development of career interests.

  • Administer and interpret individual interest, skills, abilities, and values assessment instruments; including, but no limited to FOCUS 2.

  • Assist students with professional skills such as resume writing, graduate school research and application process, job and internship searches, and interview preparation.

  • Oversees process of large-scale events, such career preparation events, career-related workshops, and employer information sessions in collaboration with team members.

  • Spearheads student/campus marketing and engagement plan for career events, such as career fairs and expos.

  • Coordinate college-specific outreach, programming and customized seminars, workshops, and programs based on student needs assessment and faculty requests.

  • Work with and advise faculty and college administration on methods to enhance the quality of career development and to expand departmental participation.

  • Design and facilitate ongoing professional development curriculum to support university student employees.

  • Provide information on Career Services to student and faculty orientations.

  • Conduct classroom presentations on various career services functions or career-related topics.

  • Develop and maintain employer contacts for part-time, full-time, and internship opportunities.

  • Support employers’ connections to A&M-SA campus through outreach methods: marketing, advertising, and conducting employer site visits.

  • Support the arrangement of on-campus recruitment activities and on-campus information sessions.

  • Maintain career services software; expands employer awareness of software to increase job postings; expand student awareness of software for job/internship search and overall use.

  • Assist other departments as needed with office operations and events; works as a member to a cross-functional team.

  • Maintain, outreach, run reports and conduct training sessions about interviewing practice software.

  • Act as representative to A&M-SA's professional career center affiliations.

  • Assist with other Career Services leadership in leading and developing professional development opportunities for the team.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in a related field.

  • Five years of related work experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Masters degree in related field.
