The Career Center is pleased to announce the opening for an Assistant Director on the Employment Services team. This Assistant Director will be responsible for employer engagement and outreach programs targeting new and existing recruiting organizations. Additionally, this person will work closely with the Career Center’s scheduling team for activities related to on-campus recruitment. The Assistant Director will work with directly with recruiting organizations providing leadership and guidance to help establish recruiting strategies, engage students in campus activities, market employment opportunities, and brand organizations. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are needed to create and strengthen partnerships with leadership and campus stakeholders to expand employer engagement opportunities.

The Texas A&M University Career Center provides centralized career and professional development services for undergraduate, graduate, and former students. We provide individualized career advising while also empowering students to utilize self-assessment resources to explore careers, we assist and support students in gaining relevant experience and pursuing their career goals, whether they choose to seek admission to graduate school or secure professional employment. One of the largest programs of its kind in the nation, the Career Center has been recognized nationally and regionally for our many best practices. Starting Salary: $52,000/Annually (Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire's experience)

Position Details: Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends. Employee will supervise (1) Administrative Associate IV and (1) Graduate Assistant.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Five years of related experience in industry, academe, government, or other professional work experience related to business, operations management, personnel/program management, recruiting and employment, or career planning.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work with a variety of constituents from corporate executives to office professionals, academic deans and faculty, current, former, and prospective students and parents

  • Strong reasoning and problem-solving skills

  • Proven ability to think strategically and adapt to an everchanging environment in the employment marketplace

  • Strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize work, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and meet goals

  • Exceptional level of professionalism

  • Computer literacy

  • Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet and database programs

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, while exercising sound judgment and decision making

    Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree

  • Seven or more years of experience in private sector management, higher education, career services/advising, recruiting, human resources, corporate development, or professional development and training

  • Academic training in human resource development, higher education administration, business administration, or student personnel/development

  • Management/supervisory experience

    Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Clear understanding of the present and potential future application of technology and online resources

  • Ability to develop and deliver innovative programs

  • Knowledge of online resources and emerging technologies impacting the job search market

  • Business level knowledge with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Proven ability in managing organizations, delivering presentation and excellent interpersonal skills

Essential Duties/Tasks:

  • Employer Development and Support - Leads, develops, and manages recruiting organization development and outreach programs to increase the number and variety of employment opportunities for our undergraduate and graduate students. Maintains current knowledge base of labor market trends and occupational information. Fosters partnerships with external constituencies, including employing organizations, donors, Texas A&M Foundation and departments, and sustains national awareness of recruiting Texas A&M University students. Engages Career Center staff in various job development activities. Leverages Texas A&M University’s strengths to attract new recruiting organizations. Provides guidance to recruiting organizations as they evaluate existing talent acquisition approach. Establishes tactical strategies effectively matching recruiting goals, posting opportunities, and planning student engagement approaches.

  • Client Relationship Management - Establishes new and shepherds existing partnerships with key employers and prospective recruiting organizations. Facilitates mutually beneficial relationships between employers, Career Coordinators, faculty, academic advisors and students. Effectively utilizes HireAggies, operating on the Symplicity platform. Leverages Texas A&M University’s strengths to maintain existing clients and broaden their footprint for recruiting on campus. Provides leadership and strategic guidance to employers as they evaluate existing recruiting activities, establish tactics more effectively matching recruiting goals, and plan student engagement approaches. Cultivates relationships with Career and Academic Advisors to enhance student success. Advises and coaches students on competitive positioning, resume development, interview skills and techniques. Maintains confidentiality and keeps accurate, updated records following office procedures.

  • Event Planning Support - Oversees and coordinates staff activities related to large event planning in support of on campus employer engagement, recruiting and networking.

  • Career Education - In collaboration with the Campus Programs team, engages employer participants in state-of-the-art career education programs both in person and virtually, providing undergraduate and graduate students with current employment trends and lifelong job search strategies. Plans and executes customized career education programs involving employers, such as Mock Interviews, Externships, Resume Reviews, workshops/panels, and other initiatives.

  • Advising - Advises students on career opportunities and job search skills. Supports Career Center and University mission by conducting programs and services including workshops and events, walk-in advising, and committee work. Initiates and fosters mutually beneficial business relationships with faculty and academic advisors to build partnerships between them, the Career Center and employers. Performs other duties as assigned.
