RedHat Software Automation Engineer - RHEL Upgrades in Spain

The Red Hat Upgrades and Supportability team is looking for a Software Automation Engineer to join us for an interesting initiative. In this role, you will help us make sure that the upgrades and migration across Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) proceed smoothly. On top of it, you will have a chance to work also on expanding non-RHEL distributions to Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). You will develop automated tests, search, analyze, report, and track defects, as well as verify bug fixes. This role gives you the opportunity to contribute to the way we test our Linux operating system and related products. What you will do

  • Use your Linux knowledge and skills to design and carry out tests

  • Identify issues that might affect performance, stability, and interoperability

  • Work with developers to investigate issues

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test suites

  • Use Ansible, Python, or pytest to implement the integration tests

  • Automate the testing with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) services like Testing Farm and Packit

  • Work on an upstream open source project in GitHub - your test contributions will be visible to anyone including the community and customers

  • Work as part of a team testing a utility for automated migration to a higher Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) version and an automated conversion of Linux distributions derived from Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) to Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) itself, distributions include, but are not limited to, CentOS and Oracle Linux.

  • Help Red Hat develop modern tooling that directly affects company success

What you will bring

  • Experienced Linux power user or good orientation with general Linux system administration; ability to accomplish basic administrative tasks in the terminal, e.g., install packages, work with file systems, etc.

  • Familiarity with basic text processing utilities like grep, sed, etc.

  • Understanding of the linux architecture, boot process, services, logs, etc.

  • Solid skills in scripting in Bash and Python

  • Ability and willingness to learn new technologies

  • Solid written and verbal communication skills in English

The following will be considered a plus:

  • Experience in automation

  • Experience in Quality Engineering

  • Experience with CI/CD
