Job Overview

The Appliances business unit of TE Connectivity has an opportunity for an experienced Field Application Engineer in China to support key direct customers growth in the region. The business unit has determined that, for our key customers, having knowledgeable engineering presence locally is critical to long-term success in supporting our customers’ product and design needs and in advancing our Company’s interests.

The FAE will serve as a technical resource for our customers’ engineers and program / platform managers by providing technical expertise, design work, product application information, and general support for strategic customers. The selected engineer will collaborate with client design engineers and TE Connectivity product managers to oversee connector product design from market definition through production and release. Provide physical/mechanical manufacturing concepts, proposals, and general design support for highly specific client products. Act as initial point of contact and establish relationships with key engineering stakeholders at client manufacturing sites. Review and support highly technical client manufacturing, testing, and reliability requirements on physical connector performance. Interpret engineering drawings and virtual models in support of cost estimation and fabrication of prototypes. Work with cross-functional teams in development and manufacturing for thorough understanding customer requirements and design requests. Lead internal discussions on Bill of Materials (BOM) and preparation of customer quotes. Review, prepare and present design proposals to customers both externally and internally. Provide technical assistance, engineering proposals, customer training, technical advice, demonstrations, tech days, workshops and presentations to introduce TE technologies and products that meet client needs and be a significant interface between TE Connectivity’s sales and engineering organizations and our customers.

What your background should look like:

Key Job Responsibilities:

• Be the initial point of contact for customer’s local engineering group

• Function as the technical interface between the customer’s engineers and the TE engineering community on all existing products as well as focus on new product development opportunities

• Actively contribute to new product development opportunities for TE at the customer with the ability to provide conceptual design modeling

• Interact directly with key customers on a regular basis and coordinate the deliverables related to customer projects including new products, modifications to existing products, test studies, signal integrity modeling, and any other development efforts

• Establish relationships with key customer engineering contacts and decision makers

• Gain a solid understanding of customer’s product set and future roadmap

• Gain a solid understanding of TE Appliances products and future roadmap

• Use VOC (Voice of Customer) tools to understand the accounts’ technology, strategic direction, and electronic connectivity needs. Communicate these needs to internal TE Connectivity teams

• Support a cross-functional, global team specific to the customer. The team may consist of a Program Manager, Quality Engineering, Logistics, Procurement, Operations, and Sales

• Penetrate customers’ design cycle to be involved in the early stages of new product / platform planning

• Support product & process qualifications

• Support existing applications and products including tolerance analysis, application evaluation, and testing

Must have demonstrated experience in the following:

• Ability to leverage engineering competency to understand customer requirements directly related to interconnects, relays, sensors as well as cable and electromechanical assemblies

• Understanding of connector design and mechanical assembly and/or manufacturing techniques

• Oral, written and presentation skills demonstrated by the ability to communicate across all levels within and outside of the organization, include global communication

• Ability and willingness to travel as required

• Successful candidates must have ability and desire to work independently

• Outstanding networking, influencing, and listening skills

• Demonstrated ability to provide effective project leadership

• Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize

• Strong interpersonal & negotiating skills

Minimum Requirements:

• BS degree in Engineering required (Mechanical / Electrical / Electronic preferred)

• 3-5 years of technical sales or sales experience

• Experience in working with Appliances OEM is a strong preference

• Workable level with English

Travel requirements: 25-50% domestic travel.
